I have an SJ30 and love it. I've got a friend who is looking for a handheld and uses a Mac.

Any problem with using the SJ30 with a Mac?

the answer is "it depends"

it depends on which operating system your friend is using.
it depends on if your friend is willing to spend a little extra ($30) on a sync program (missing sync).

with missing sync, as far as i have been able to discern, all clie's are compatible with all macs using os 9.x and 10.1 or greater. it is the only way to go (again IMHO). it provides dependable syncing, memory stick mounting on the desktop, conduits for mp3s and itunes as well as photos and iphoto.

I have an SJ30.

I have a Mac.

What I don't have is Missing Sync.

What I do is sync via USB Cable and/or infrared.

What I sync are Entourage, Address Book, iCal. It all works perfectly. Entourage uses Hotsync, and the iapps use iSync (of course).

Conclusion. The SJ30 can and will sync with a Mac.

I should say however, that I have heard/read of several people who cannot sync their N-Series Clies (any of 'em) without Missing Sync.

Darn you Sony! Support Macs!

So, it is necessary to by additional 3rd party software to be able to fully sync the Clie with a Mac?

if you are running mac os 9.x you have to get missing sync

if you are running osX you need it on some models - those with mp3 capabilities

sony does not support the macintosh interface and uses unconventional formats in its usb statements. missing sync fixes this problem and adds a whole lot more. imho it is worth every penny.

Yeah, so basically, if you have OSX and you don't want to mount the memory stick as a drive, you are all set.

I haven't tried my NR with it though, but from what I hear, it shouldn't work.
