I saw link listing bluetooth phones on this forum. Are there any Sprint PCS phones with bluetooth?

Who has phones which work with the UX50 and which carriers do you have? I want to buy both at the same time.

Thanks

I have a T-mobile T610 with T-zones and a UX50. They work together very well and would get you browsing on your UX50 in no time.

sorry if this is a dumb question, but for those of u who use bluetooth cell phones to get online, do you need a ISP dialup account? or does it use the same internet connection like say WAP enabled phones?

sindu

guys usually suscribe to GPRS service for high speed access so ISP dial up is not the choice.

My verizon service offers me 14.4kbps ISP for free with my nation wide plan. I know its not super fast, or even remotely concidered at any rate of speed to be measured but its free and all i do on it is surf when im board in class and dont have access to a computer. To check email it only takes me a min to login, read, replay and sut down so its not to bad.

just got my ux50 two days ago. been using it with an att sony ericsson t616. instant easy internet access for surfing and email. also using it for AIM. accesses the net via GPRS and the connection is definitely faster than 56k. plus you can use voice while on. i also love the ability to dial numbers from the address book via bluetooth and the sms function. a fantastic communication tool that works seemlessly with the t616. i'm hooked.

can't imagine how much i'm jacking up my data account though!!!

For T-Mobile Cellular Users:

Does anyone know how to connect the Sony ux50 via bluetooth to the T610 to allow you to SMS and web surf?

Can you do this with T-mobile T-zones or do need to subscribe to their more expensives internet package.

thanks

If u go with Cingular, do u need to get their internet option for like $6 a month to connect ux-50 via bluetooth, or does it just use your minutes up?

So does the Ericsson R520 have good voice reception?
I am in the market for a blutooth good phone without color screen and camera. Looks interesting!

pel in Chicago,

I use a Nokia 3650 & T-mobile. I also subcribed to T-mobile Unlimited Internet for $20 a month, or $30 without voice plan.

They have a mail-in rebate on the phone so I'll end up paying $150 USD for it.

Since I have the "T-mobile Internet" and since it's unlimited, I'm able to use their "T-zones" service as well. I just set my default connection to go through GPRS. A five minute call to their tech will get you setup.

Please note, it's not the fastest connection, but if you're simply using a messaging service, or pushing & pulling text E-mail, you're fine. Yes you can send pictures as well.

Sony has the 3650 listed in their mobile connection manager and it works great with the UX50 all via Bluetooth.

The phone stays in my pocket and I only need to fire up the UX to make the connection.

Plus, it's cool to use with my laptop as well via the Bluetooth to get access sometimes.

I am in the market for a blutooth good phone without color screen and camera. Looks interesting! It's ugly, big (but admittedly light and flat), and a pretty poor phone to use. I also found the battery life wasn't nearly as impressive as it was supposed to be. It's okay if all you want is data and you're gonna be keeping it in your bag\pocket all day anyway, but apart from that I wouldn't bother. I get very self-conscious over owning ugly gadgets and stuff :P

For those of you using T-Mobile, see this thread for info on the different internet plans:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=237460&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Basically, if you have a voice plan you automatically get FREE unlimited WAP, web browsing, and e-mail. Ports 80, 110, and 25 are open. Otherwise if you need more than that you will need to spend the $20. But for most there's no need to spend any extra money :)

For those of you that don't have T-Mobile service yet, you can get a T616 and Jabra bluetooth headset from Amazon.com for $150, and $200 in rebates so you make $50.

I have a T-Mobile/T68i that I am currently using with my UX-50.

I went through the gyrations of talking to a T-Mobile Techie and had very little success.

Then, I checked the Sony Updates site, downloaded the latest iteration of the Mobile Connection Wizard and, to coin a c0mm0n phrase: VOILA!! It worked like a charm!

You can find it here: Sony Updates (http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/cgi-bin/swu-index.pl?script_id=&mdl_id=549)

I can get the Ux50 to talk to Sony Ericsson T610 via bluetooh after downloading the updated driver from the palm one site.

However I still cannot figure out how to surf the web using my ux50 through my T610 via bluetooth. If you anyone has any idea or suggestion I would love to hear them

Once you have a BT connection, you should be able to surf, send email or do almost anything you can do with a Wi-Fi connection.

I did a search on PhoneScoop.com using their Phone Finder function and the only Bluetooth phone that came up was the SonyEricsson T608 which is not out yet. It's probably in testing with Sprint right now. Here's a link to the phone on PhoneScoop.

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=228

Who knows if Sprint will ever release this phone since it was approved a while back by the FCC. Sprint is in the same boat as Verizon Wireless (both providers use CDMA digital cell phone technology). There aren't any Bluetooth phones currently available.

Here's a big discussion on this phone on HowardForums.com (Mobile phone discussion forums).

That was so helpful. Basically Sprint has no bluetooth phones but then they have the awesome Samsung I500 - PDA/phone. For the bluetooth option, I have to switch to At & T or Cingular when my contract is up.

Unfortunately my N760C no longer syncs with Outlook 2003 and I need a good PDA most of all. I still really want a UX50 but need a new phone/cellular carrier to be able to surf.

chicago84, if you like PDA/phone combo units, don't forget that Sprint also has the TREO 600 which has been getting rave reviews. It's not a flip phone like the i500 but it has a built in camera, runs Palm OS 5.2.1 (the i500 runs Palm OS 4.1), a thumb keyboard and has a SD/MMC slot. Here's a link.

Hi

I was asked where to download the new drivers for phones

please go to:

http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/phonelink.html

download the file and pick your phone and install only that PRC file.

My Ux-50 was able to Hot Sync using the 802.11b wi-fi. I did not make any changes to the system but now it has stopped hotsyncing. I am able to Ping the ux50 and I am able to surf the web from the wi-fi but just not able to hot sync any longer.

And body with some advice?

After reviewing all the great posts on this message board on the bluetooth phone issue, I have decided to go with a second cell phone until my contract expires with Sprint (soon).

The cell phone plans with T mobile are definitely cheaper for nationwide covering, not paying for roaming and free long distance. Is there that much difference between the 2 phones?

Also with AT&T there does not seem to be any unlimited data package. For all the 616 users, which data plan do you use?

Thanks so much. I'm picking up my UX50 today and the phone after some more research!

I was reading on HowardForums.com that the Sony Ericcson T608 will only be available with the 3MB vision plan or something like that. They don't want people getting it with the unlimited data/vision plan and using it as a modem. That stinks for Sprint customers.

Thanks CLEAmber, I didn't realize that. I guess the way to go with Sprint is sign up for unlimited vision with a cheap phone and then upgrade. I think I remember reading that the full upgrade price (without a new contract) wasn't that bad and that you were still eligible for the rebate.

I have another question about connecting a phone to UX50 to a cell phone via Bluetooth. I've never used Bluetooth but I'm planning on getting either the Sony Ericsson Z600 or the Morotola V600 (I think I said this another post, sorry if I repeated myself). For the people that have connected a Sony Ericsson phone to the UX50 via Bluetooth as well as phones from other manufacturers, was it easier connecting the Sony Ericsson phone or was it about the same? This might be a stupid question since I've never used Bluetooth so forgive my ignorance. I'm leaning towards the Motorola V600 if T-Mobile gets it but I don't want to run into Bluetooth issues with the UX50.

For those who are curious, here are the links to both phones on PhoneScoop.

I'm looking at the V600 too, neat phone!! I've only paired with sony ericsson phones so far and it is a snap. the Z600 is supposed to be compatible with the T610 phone drivers so I don't think that one will be a problem. I'm hoping that the V600 will work with the generic gsm phone drivers at least until a specific V600 phone driver is written.

I wouldn't look for a V600 phone driver any time soon though since the V600 isn't officially out in the u.s. yet. I was thinking about buying one of the unlocked / imported ones, but jeez, these things are going for almost a thousand bux!!

You think the regular V600 is expensive....try searching on eBay for the Aston Martin limited edition V600. I think they're going for over $2K. From what I've been reading on HowardForums, AT&T is getting the V600 exclusively for a couple of months and then T-Mobile is going to get it.

I had to extend my contract one year (actually only 8 months) and ordered my T608. Here's hoping it works with the AT&T T616 accessories since I ordered a 616 first. I'm returning the AT&T phone so I can keep only one cellular contract. Here's hoping it works. Doubtful I'll need unlimited vision.

Excellent sources for those of you who aren't away of them:

http://www.sprintpcsinfo.com - THE T608 information source

http://www.sprintusers.com/forums - Great SPCS general info. Lots of T608 and BT related threads currently.

I ordered the T608 and retained my unlimited data plan. However, the TOS clearly stipulate the Vision service can NOT be used in conjunction with a PDA or laptop (Read: just don't abuse it and use Vision as your primary ISP!).

On to the good news. Data is FAST on a T3 with the T608 - Still waiting for my ux40 to be delivered. Averaging ~80kbps. Nearly twice as fast as dialup, but the latency is bad at around 550ms.

Bad - Battery life is short when using heavy BT. CDMA phones are inherently more battery-hungry than GSM, so don't switch from a T610/616 and expect to receive anywhere near your old battery life.

chicago84
12-26-2003, 09:48 PM
I just got the phone but haven't activated it. It is larger and not as well designed compared to the T616 which I have yet to return. I'm not impressed.

To ask the last post, how much battery life can I expect while using the phone to surf on the UX50? I don't plan to surf for long periods of time but at least 5-10 min here and there.

I may end up punting this phone if it's really a hassle.

Saw that the Sony site has update for the phone drivers - what does it really do besides what they say

This program updates the phone drivers on your CLIÉ® handheld and does the following:
Updates the system software
Provides Short Messaging Service (SMS) connections with certain Bluetooth™ technology-enabled GSM phones*
Enables GSM functionality for GSM (Global System for Mobile Telecommunications) phones*.
*This functionality may not be available for certain GSM phones

Chicago, this is my first foray into SE phones so I can't commment on the look/feel vs. the T616. With constant Vision usage on a PDA through BT, you can expect about an hour. Keep in mind this is heavy usage with a 4/5 signal strength.

Which network are you using with the T616?

chicago84
12-26-2003, 11:47 PM
The T616 is the phone for AT&T (T610 for T-Mobile). I have yet to activate either phone.

DaMan

From what I've been reading on HowardForums.com, nobody can beat the data plans on T-Mobile. Like I said in my earlier posts, I'm just waiting for a clamshell Bluetooth phone, then I'm signing up.

DaMan
12-28-2003, 12:00 PM
Well, TMobile may seem like the best data provider, but their service coverage areas do not work for a lot of people. You can't use GPRS if you are roaming.

chicago84
12-28-2003, 09:47 PM
Today I held both phones and tried to add phone book entries into the Sprint phone. The phone is too wide for my hand and the buttons are just as small as the AT&T. It is also much heavier and only a bit smaller than my own Sprint phone. The screen is also smaller though the phone is larger. Plus it has no camera.

I called Sprint and I'm sending the phone back.

I chose AT&T because their national coverage is much better than TMobile though I believe TMobile is adequate in Chicago metro. However, as noted previously, I need a phone not just a data service.

Sam K
12-29-2003, 12:31 AM
One thing about T-Mobile is that their data plans don't use your minutes like the plans with some other service providers and the free WAP that comes with the T-Mobile plans (which can be upgraded to other data/internet plans) can be used to surf the net on a PC or PDA connected to a phone without using minutes. I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that the AT&T data plans use your plan minutes. Here's a nice thread on Howard Forums that explains the T-Mobile internet plans.

At least on their GSM/GPRS network, AT&T data plans are separate from the voice plans. Data usage does not use up any of the voice minutes.

AT&T's data plan is their mMode service.
there are several levels to the data plan.
ranging from pay as you go $.02 per kb to 8mb at $19.99

using T616 with UX50 to hop online and check work email.
works really well when you need to hop online to check something
or to retrieve and send emails. i wouldn't encourage you to use
the mMode plan and UX50 to surf the web for extended length of
time.

fyi, smtp for AT&T is pdasmtp.attwireless.net in case anyone is
having problems with sending out emails from the ux50 while you are hook up to your T616 via bluetooth & mMode.

Sam K
12-30-2003, 08:57 AM
Because of the earlier posts I started looking into the AT&T data plans and I saw the mMode plans on their web site. I was going to put up a post about the limit on the amount of data but taishi beat me to it. Here's a link to what taishi was referring to in terms of the limit on the amount of data.

http://www.attwireless.com/personal/features/mmode/plans.jhtml

8mb per month isn't that much especially if you plan on surfing the web. With T-Mobile the basic WAP access that's included with every plan gives access to many ports so that should be good enough for me, plus they don't have a limit on the amount of data like AT&T.

macstibs
12-31-2003, 12:06 AM
I believe AT&T recently announced an all-you-can-eat data plan not unlike the others that runs about $80 a month. Considering its GPRS (EVO if you get the new Nokia thats EVO compliant), its not that great a deal. You can get better throughput on Sprint/Verizon for the same cost and comparable throughput at a much lower price on TMobile.

RE EVO: It's the next generation GSM Data spec. It should allow throughput comparable to the 1XRTT rates you get on the CDMA networks. Unforunately the Nokia 6600 (IIRC) doesnt have bluetooth.

DaMan
12-31-2003, 09:27 AM
FWIW, the truly unlimited plan from Sprint is $80/month, but if you want it you had better call now. Many people have been told they can no longer order it. This plan was originally for the wireless card. The $15/month plan technically can not be used in conjunction with a PDA/laptop as per the TOS agreement.

This is why I'm going to get the Motorola V600 for T-Mobile service. Someone got an Aston Martin edition V600 working with his T-Mobile service and here's a pic of it connected to a Tungsten T3.
