I was in Vegas for the sema convention and i happen to leave my NX80 on the nightstand and when i came back to the room the next day it was missing. I filed a incident report with the Imperial Hotel & Casino. They say that by law they are not responsible for item in the room unless they were negligent. So now i'm out a NX80 and mem stick!!!!!

!!!
you say you left it in your room, unless there were other people staying with you i think the hotel should be responsible. how can they pin this on you? it doesnt make sense.

PS-I have a .wav I recorded on my clie of my friend cursing and screaming about how angry he was that we had to wait an hour for the lunch people to get out the pizza (Lunch is 50 minutes long). I listen to it to let out my anger without actually doing anything. If you want it I will send it!

If you locked your door when you left, then they WERE negligent cause they let someone into your room or rooms were not safe from breakins.

I stayed at the Imperial a few years ago on business. It was such a dump. Have they fixed the elevators yet? I felt like I was in danger whenever I got on one.
If their maids and/or maintenance people are thieves then that is just one more reason to not stay there in the future.
My recommendation: The Luxor! Great rooms, great price (off season), and they have $5 roulette & blackjack tables!

I tried to argue with risk management to no avail. I am going to investigate this a little more and also see if my renter's insurance will cover it.

If you locked your room then I would call the cops and see if theres anything they can do. Or if the Imperial is a chain of hotels, call their center and tell them what has happened. And maybe even call the Better Buisness Burea.

I thought if you have taken all the possible precaution to prevent entry to the room, then only you and the hotel staff have access to the room.
It is more likely that hotel staff had pilfered the item and the hotel should launch an investigation of this since the PDA is not a cheap item.
Perhaps writing a complaint to the general manager of the hotel and another letter to the hotel owners (if it is franchised - such as "Hilton" or "Best Western" etc) to state that an item was stolen and that hotel management alleged you were negligent. Another thing to add to the letter is to say that you would not stay there again and will tell all your friends since the hotel is not interested in protecting property of the patrons and seem to turn a blind eye to theft.
At this point, the management should start running around in small circles since they fear damage to their reputations than anything else.
Just a suggestion.

Hi, well some of my family works in the bank industry, and banks get robbed all the time by their own employees. But, here's the thing: They don't call the cops. They believe that it'll ruin their reputation and lose customers.
So with the Hotel, be sure to call the police. They will not call the police because they think it might ruin their reputation.....especially if customers get to know that a high priced PDA got stolen. Even if the hotel doesn't want to do anything about your missing clie, at least let the police look into it.

I definitely think a police report should be filed.
Hotels may not be "responsible" for things, but that does not change the fact that your NX80 was stolen. Stolen is stolen, which is an act that is against the law!
Sorry to hear about it-that totally stinks!

I think every hotel I've ever stayed in (and that's many) has a policy usually on the door or on the thing you sign when you check in that states that they cannot be held responsible for valuables left in the room. I NEVER leave anything I want to keep laying around in the room when I'm not there. YOu've gotta figure these people they have working there are making minnimum wage and seeing a $500 bill otherwise know as a CLie laying on the end table is a mighty big temptation. Right or wrong, do YOUR part to keep honest people honest.
BTW, I cause a huge FUC**NG scene in the lobby. The hotel would be the ones to call the police :)

Don't you have to have a copy of a police report to report it to your insurance company anyway? I thought so but I could be wrong. That and your proof that you had one (PDA). Really sorry that your clie got stolen and I feel worse for the person that stole it. Such shame on them.

Sorry honest people don't steal. Someone who will steal given the opportunity is an opportunist thief and probably hides as an honest person the rest of the time, but classifying someone like that as an honest person is an insult to every person who wouldn't take that Clie even if he/she could get away with it, like me.

Point taken PROZAK. But I still stand firm that if you leave something like a Clie laying around in a hotel room, your asking for trouble. In a perfect world it would be no problem, but we all know that this is not a perfect world. I live in a small town where most people don't lock their cars and sometimes not their houses but I don't think I'd sleep good at night knowing my $10k Pioneer Plasma was sitting in the living room for the taking.

heh, i dont knwo what i would do if i lost my clie, i accidentally left mine at my best friends house and i went crazy, i called his house at midnight and his parents werent to happy, but when i got it back i was 10 times less tense and i couldn't sleep that night, it has everything anyone would want to knwo about me, ss number, all the bank accounts, b-days special occasions, full name everyhting i gotta do for the next 3 FRIGGIN YEARS, and that is irreplaceable, of course its backed up on the desktop but still, maybe i should remove my ss number and my banking numbers from it......
