Newbie can't get USB cable to fit

Hey I just got my UX-50 today and am so excited but I can't figure out how to get the USB cable to work for syncing. I plugged in the fat end into my computer after installing the software and all, but when I open the little door on the side of the pda for my cable ot plug into the small end of my USB cable just won't fit into the hole any direction I try. Any words of wisdom or suggestions?

The wide side goes in on top. Gently wiggle it in while holding the rubber cap out of the way.

Are you sure you've pulled the usb rubber guard thing out far enough? And, if it doesn't fit the way it's obviously supposed to fit in, then you somehow have the wrong cable, because it's a standard size and it just, well.. goes in normally. :}
