Dear friends,

First of all I will like to thank all who replied to my previous posting about Memory sticks. People like you all make this newsgroup very helpful.

I have a second question. After using a Clie T-615 for few days, I have started liking it a lot and want to get one for my wife. If I get some other Palm PDA for my wife which may or may not be made by Sony, then can I export some information from my PDA to my wife's PDA? Say, I want her to have access to all the Address Book enteries in my PDA. If I have another Sony Clie T-615 then, I can easily synchronize the two with Palm desktop. But what if the PDA's are different? Is it possible to export the Address book enteries to other PDA?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
MK

There are a couple of different ways to do this.

1) Using Import and Export, you should be able to start your wife's PDA off with all of your address entries. That's what I did when I got my wife a PDA three years ago.

2) You can beam selected entries to her PDA from yours. Depends a lot on how many you want to share.

Both of these are only going to work if both PDAs are Palm-OS based. Also, if one of them is a T3 (or other new Palm PDA), there might be some difficulties. The new PIM programs support some extra fields.

What if someone has a Sony PDA (T615) and a Palm PDA (T|C). The Palm Desktop is currently configured to work the the T|C. Can I add the T615 (with its own hotsync ID) to that same Palm Desktop for syncing or do I have to install the Palm Desktop that came with the Sony? Will the two versions of the Palm Desktop conflict on my PC?

TIA,

I believe there are ways to get them both to work with the same desktop. For example, I know that I could download the latest Palm desktop and have it work with my N610C.

You might have to mess around a little with drivers, and then maybe you won't. Since I don't have the exact combination you ask about, I can't answer for sure.

The best bet would be to make a backup and try it out. Maybe you can borrow a friend's PDA for an experiment if you don't own both of these.

Andy,

Thanks for the feedback. I do have both devices. I bought the T615 for my sister and wanted to install some stuff on it, but I may just wait until I set her up on her own PC.

As long as you both use different HotSync names, it is possible to use the same PalmDesktop for both, AS LONG as your PDA doesn't use some customised version of the Palm Desktop.

Sony's do, but the PDAs themselves work perfectly okay with Palm's desktop (I know because I downloaded it and use it with my T665 instead of the Sony-bundled one. :D As far as I can tell they are nearly identical anyway except for some branding logos/text)

Hey, thanks. I was wondering about that very thing. When I had a NX70, I got a "Clie" version of the Palm Desktop, but didn't know if I just had to use the "Clie" version for the T615.

Good to know!

You can sync numerous devices on one computer even using the same or different hotsync ID's as long as each one is in a different profile on a WIN2000 or WINXP computer. I sucessfully hotsync a Palm Pilot 1000, a Sony SL-10, a Sony T665C, and a Sony NX73V on one computer under 4 different profiles. On two of the profiles I am running different versions of the same software..i.e. I'm syncing Doc's to go 3.5 on the Palm Pilot 1000, and Doc's to go 6.004 on the NX73V...all units currently have the same hotsync ID. Make sure that all profiles have administrator privlidges though...for some reson it will not work using the "power users" group.
