Ok gentlemen, first off I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have had an n760c for close to 3 years now and its been the best pda ive ever had.

The reason i truley love it is that it functions as an incredible mp3 player{for something "atatched" to a full pda} The remote is what has kept me from buying anything else.

Now these are my issues:

1) I kinda want the remote

2) but I want it to be as light as the n760c

3) I wasnt worried until i visited this site about the screen size of the UX, >does not being able to rotate the the screen really criple its functionality?

4) I really want to be able to watch movies or at least 25 min shows on it {like a simpsons episode}
A)the nx is 200mhz
B)the ux is 123 with graphics card
C) which one has better video quality?

5) Does the nx have a weak battery?

6) I dont have anything that uses BT or Wifi but the college im going to next year has many many wifi hotspots in classrooms and all over campus.

7)Camera is of no importance, i got a really nice sony cybershot already lol. {no nx73! i want that extra internal memory}

8) Can either of them have their OS upgraded, and is that even important?

Thats alot to respond to but your input is greatly apreciated. Thank you all for your advice =).

also: RIP clie n760c> its screen was cracked by my sister today. no touch screen but its still a *****in mp3 player.

I'd say it's a tough call. I'd recommend you get your hands on both before making the final decision. As for your points...

1) I'm not sure if you mean the remote MP3 control on the headphone cord or a TV remote. :)

2) The UX is definitely smaller and more "portable" than the NX80.

3) See it in person to judge for the size. Personally, the size doesn't bother my eyes, and actually looks really crisp. I wouldn't say that landscape only CRIPPLES the UX, because you still have a 320x320 display on apps that don't support widescreen.

4) I'd say they're pretty close in video quality (UX looking crisper because of screen size), but the good thing about the UX is that it makes use of the Palm Sound API as opposed to Sony's on the NX, so there is a greater compatibility with audio/video players.

5) I've heard it's pretty good actually.

6) If you're going to college next year, the UX50 could come in handy with it's built in WiFi and bigger keyboard, possibly saving money down the road (of course, that would mean getting the UX50, not the UX40).

7) there ya go.

8) It's HIGHLY unlikely that Sony will provide an OS 6 upgrade to either device, but you never know. I wouldn't bet on it though.

In the end, I'd say that based on your criteria, the UX40/50 might be the best bet, because of it's overall smaller form factor and multimedia capabilities. The two things that really convinced me to lean towards the UX50 are the built-in WiFi and the Palm sound API (mind you, I don't get it until XMas). Using one to surf the net was really cool.

The only reason to wait would be for them to put a better camera on the UX. Which you don't care. More memory. Which you can take care of with a memory stick. And, have the ability to change the screen orientation to a portrait. Most UX owner, including myself:D , love it the way it is and only ask for more programs to adapt to the landscape orientation and not to change to portrait. Oh, and possibly a bigger screen. The only real reason to wait and the only one that would take a lot for sony to do and is probably not feasible for another 6 months minimum. So, take you pick now or wait another 3-6 months. What's out now is some of the best PDA's ever and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with either. I'd say go with the UX.
The only downside is the screen and after using it a while it's great. Some people have a problem with the size of the lettering which is easily taken care of with Fonts4UX. So happy PDA hunting.

I say go for the UX. The NX80 to me was huge. Don't get me wrong, its an awesome pda, just a little large for me.

If you want easy access to wifi, the UX50 is the way to go. Also if you want battery life, get the extended battery, it'll last 9hrs with wifi on!!!

i'd also suggest the UX50.
1. you don't need a really nice camera
2. the Ux50 is already small enough to act as a remote (kind of)
3. it has integrated WiFi
4. it has same processor as NX80
5. battery life is around the same as NX80
6. has the newest palm OS5 updates
7. there are ways to make programs run in non-landscape mode (look on forums)

Thank you for your responces. I am most grateful {so much that i registered =) } Im still not convinced though. There are two more ux flaws that need to be adressed:

9) No way the screen can rotate because an update or 3rd party prog is unlikly?

10)no hard ware buttons = no games

another nx80 problem:

11) compact flash card only works on a few things? no movies or mp3s?! or is there a way around this?

Actually there are quite a few games that work great on the UX.
