Hello everyone. I realized that a couple of months ago I said I was going to start a webpage for my company, Area89, and I never did. Well now I am 100% serious. I am going to be hosting it through geocities until I can afford my own domain. The url for the site is: http://geocities.com/area89_Palm . I hope everyone will like it when it is finished. In the next week look for changes happening everyday. For the couple of days I will be creating the buttons and screenshots. If you would like to help me or have a idea about my webpage please contact me at kg6mmn@yahoo.com or through cliesource(pm). Thank you for your time...

you can get a domain from the island of Tolekemou (I think I butchered the spelling) for free. Just type in the name you want and add a .tk to the end and follow the registration process. There are no ads but there is the occaisonal popup promoting the island (it's kind of random but it's not annoying).
and what exactly is it that you plan to develop?

but sometimes the tk domain can be down too, its slow in redirecting too.

What's the website about? If it's about your making skins the website is really going to fail. The design if you want the truth about the website looks like it was done by a 5 year old. No effort was made to put in any sort of layout whatsoever. There is no top banner anyways. If you call yourself a skin designer and can't design a simple site what will people think of you? I don't care that the design ain't finished but it doesn't even look started. That lightning thing is aweful it and doesn't even look like it was done by you, it looks like something geocities would put up to say "here's a spacer image for you to use". Before you say "Can you do any better", look at my site. It's designed for mobile but it's probably the best designed mobile site because it actually has a layout. Thing is, you need a design to be any bit of a competent site. Heck, in my site I even designed the tg50 in my logo and didn't use another image. That NX in my top image also was created by me. Plus, my site I didn't even put that much effort into, what's your excuse for having no design at all? I'm not trying to be mean man, I'm just saying the truth.

I don't think the website is all that bad. Every coder/skinner/etc has got to start somewhere and skills only get better as time goes along. Don't stop working on the site cliekid and just take X Destruction's criticism as motivation to be better. I dunno why he is being so negative, but it probably has nothing to do with you.

I'm actually trying to motivate him to put more work into it. I know it's in the beginning phases, but it really needs more work. If you created those other skins from your own graphics it should be an easy job to just put effort into your site and make a nice design? I didn't want to be so hasty, but when you said you were really going to work on it I thought you were serious. This doesn't look very serious to me yet, and it looks VERY unfinished to the point of not even being started. If you want to be sucessful with graphic design, the graphic design of your site shouldn't be two images and some text. Doesn't seem like that much of a site for a graphic designer, for me at least. Look at any other site, than look at his. People right now are going to say "eh", he just used the resources geocities gave him, made no layout and no real design. This is what the difference between a design, some design and no design. This site definitely has no design. The site consists of... 2 images, 1 of them clipart, the top banner is substituted by a text title of the site. There's that and a little news post. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this picture, or am I blind! I really want to be better, but since you started stealing skin designs and full skins, I lost a ton of trust for you. Then you post things you say are your design, and I believe they are, and they are pretty good. Then you come out with a non-designed site, what's up with that! Really, try to really work on it, take a few days to design it like you do your skins, it can really be good. If you already know HTML than you're already one step ahead. Seriously, I'm not being mean here, but you can do better. It just isn't even a web page yet, and is definitely not a web site. That's my explanation for that guys, if you guys don't understand, you should now.

Hey X Destruction, who died and left YOU boss?
You're certainly not contributing anything positive. Someone is just trying to do something creative and I think it's great.
Grow up.

I never said anyone left me boss. To simply put it, he can do better and I'm showing what he needs to do to do that better. I am just a little disturbed that he stealed skins, than said he made his own which were pretty good, but then comes up with a site with no design? If you can design a skin, you can definitely design a website. Something really ain't adding up here, but if it is adding up than this guy seriously will have to work harder. This doesn't look creative to me, clipart and a menu image and a couple text, how's that creative? To me, this isn't a start for him, he already knows how to design, why he's not using it is beyond me. If you actually read through my posts you'll understand, not skim through them.

Sorry about not posting in the last couple of days... Ive been having account problems. Anyways.... I know you are not being mean to me X Destruction. YOu are only trying to help me. Also, my site will promote my skins and software. It will provide screenshots, summarys, and a link to palm gear where you can buy the product or download it. That is why I am making my site. Also, I know my graphics suck so far, but I am attempting to make some new ones and should be uploading them tommorrow or today. It really depends when I finish this 15 paragraph essay that is due tommorrow for my English class. Well I have to go write that essay now. Later everyone.......

Yeah, I know what it means to be 14, I mean I was 14 once. Heck, I'm 14 right now. If you get time you should do what I said. If you give the design a good kick up a few notches, you may have a successful site. Like I said before, if you don't know html now, learn it. If you know it, you're already a step ahead.

HTML isn't THAT important to know. Unless you're to proud to use a site builder? IMHO it's more important to know how to market. If he can market well(on and of his site) I think he can do ok. But even if he pours hours into making it the nicest site ever he may get little or no traffic.
I think you're asking for suggestions? Well, I'm co-founding a company soon, my advice: Explain what you do in detail but not in a boring way. Make sure they know they will get a quality product, finally DON'T make them jump through hoops to get places. People will go all out to get the right car for the right price, but for skins on the pdas they want it simple. Good luck

Thanxs for the advice Pdasrock. Right now I am just using the geocities page builder to make my webpage. I plan to make it very simple and elegant. Thanks for the advice again. It really helped.
P.S. I just finished that essay :-)

I strongly suggest you to host your own domain. Since your "website" does not have heavy traffic, you don't really have to worry about bandwidth and stuffs, so a simple $15 hosting plan will be perfect for your current state. So, if $15 is considered to be too large of an investment for you, then I suggest you to at least not host it with Geocities.
Geocities used to be a great place to visit, but ever since they implement those annoying stick-on adds, my broswer will sometime crash depending on how they program the little ad.

I agree. Try www.freewebz.com. Free, 45mb, no ads/popups. Will get a website called www.freewebz.com/area89. It's a great hosting service. I have a private site that I havn't done anything with there. I spent almost no time on it yet it looks quite decent IMHO. www.freewebz.com/benzcenter They have a site builder for theirs as well, I don't know how it compares to geocities. Very glad to help:D

I might also suggest purchasing a domain name. I'm not familiar with the .tk names, but it sounds like they might be troublesome. You can get domain names for $10 a year or less. Check out www.godaddy.com or www.domains410.com . It's not a huge investment, but you can easily point the name to your free webhosting service and it will look more professional when you give out links to your website.

My first skin for YiShow was based on the matrix movies and I made some pretty basic bitmaps, i am very proud of the fact that in less than a year I am now producing skins like glow and interface (see skins page on my site www.cliemax.co.uk ) my first cliemax web incarnation was basic and a bit flat, and as i got a bit better with photoshop and dreamweaver I updated it to how it looks today, one day when i've learnt a bit more I may update it again, I like to keep it fresh looking and as I am geting at least 200 visitors per day, alot more when I post a new skin, I feel I owe it to people to give them something which looks like I have put some effort and thought into. so put all your bad press behind you cliekid and start learning and thinking and creating and In my opinion (just my 2 pence worth) don't post something that's only a mock up for people to rip to pieces. put it on line and work on it but don't make it public until you are happy it's at least nearly finished.

Most of my skins are free, all the clie launcher (for TG50) skins are free and all but two YiShow skins are free. 'Glow' and 'Interface' are $2 each from handango.
