Is there a way to store appointments in the calendar application forever instead of only up to 1 month?

Don't PURGE your calendar! I have events that are over a year old still in my calendar.

You can also get a program called DBArchiver at http://www.warmfuzzy.com/palmos/dbarchiver.zip This program allows you to select how many days you want to save (instead of the default 30 days that the calendar app gives you).

Now that I have 16MB of memory, and a 64MB Memory Stick, I just leave all of my calendar entries on my CLIE. It makes for going back and checking things (like dates, appointments, etc.) much easier.

Is there any way to keep your calendar events indefinately. I see that the program you suggested only guarantees your calendar events for 999 days tops.

And BTW how do you not purge your calendar it seems that my Clie may have done it automatically?

Thank you for any help that you may further provide.

Look under HELP in the desktop software. Search for Purging.

I can't find anything which purges Datebook items by default... By default, it saves everything.

Sorry I can't help you further.

Thanks. What I'm thinking now is that the SJ30 is purging everything itself and when I sync it. It purges everything that the handheld has purged since I have it on Handheld overwrites Desktop.

I think I may have to sync so that the desktop always overwrites the handheld.

Try setting to synchronize...

at worst, you'll get double entries, and that might point you to where things are going wrong.

Neither should be purging by default.

For some reason in my Hotsync custom options the datebook isn't listed as an option to change the settings for. I don't remember if this is standard or if maybe I'm missing it. What do you mean by "try setting to synchronize"? It seems that the only options for synching the system is:
Handheld overwrite desktop
Desktop overwrites Handheld
do nothing
I just synched the handheld when I got home after re-importing my archived records and it seems the desktop is retaining the records but the handheld lost them again, so the handheld is definately the culprit now I need to find out why the handheld is purging my records.

Something seems strange here.

First of all, I use a 3rd party application to sync my Datebook and Addressbook with Outlook, so mine might be slightly different. I use Desktop-to-Go.

Let me ask you this: are you using the software that came with the Sony, or are you using Palm's software? I have heard that the software on the Sony CD is slightly different from what Palm produces. I am using Palm's s/w, since I already had it installed from my old Palm IIIxe. You can get the latest free from Palm at; http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/#

Also, right click on the Hotsync icon, then click 'about' - what version of hotsync manager are you running? Mine is 4.1.0

Does your to-do list give you the option to synchronize? Or, is it just missing from Datebook on your system?

BTW, I do the same thing you do. I sync on a home PC, as well as my work system. I have not had a problem with losing information.

Hope you get this solved...

I used to use the Palm Desktop software for my Visor Prism but since Sony suggested installing their software I am now using theirs.

According to the Hotsync program on the handheld I am using Hotsync version 4.0. I may uninstall the Clie Palm Desktop and try using the Palm Desktop from Palm from now on.

My to do list, address book and memo pad all give me the option to synchronize. The Datebook is the only thing that is missing.

I actually haven't started syncing at work yet. I still need to get the cradle from Sonystyle.com so that I can take the cable that came with the Clie to work with me and leave the cradle at home. Thanks for all your help so far Palmgeek. I'll update this thread when I start running the Palm Desktop on my home computer tonight and see if it is any different.

I find it strange that I am the only one that seems to be having a problem with this. Well me and Jeff325e.

mr deucie, I'm with you on this one!

my sj30 persists in automatically removing appointments from the handheld datebook application and archiving to a file on the palm desktop software! how can i stop this?

it automatically purges all appointments over a week old - selecting the 1, 2, 3 or one month option makes no difference at all!

does anyone know the procedure for getting archived appointments from the desktop software back onto the hanheld datebook application?

as you can probably tell, i'm a bit new to all this but absolutely love the sj30!

It seems that using the Palm Desktop from Palm may have worked. I'll have to see how long the appointments stay in the handheld though. Thanks for the tip Palmgeek. Looks like I'll try to keep using the Palm Desktop rather than installing new Desktop software from now on.

I think the only way to change the setting is to do it on the desktop. Try uninstalling the Palm Desktop for Clie. Then installing the Palm Desktop from Palm.com You then import your datebook file into the new desktop progam. Don't purge anything and see how long it stays in your handheld.

After you import the file from your old desktop program's archive you should be able to sync them all back into your handheld. Make sure you go into the hotsync manager->custom and you should see as the default "synchronize files" next to datebook. Then hotsync and you should be good to go.

Mr Deucie how's it going?

Took your advice on downloading archived appointments from desktop software back on to handheld. It worked a treat! Many thanks.

Also took your advice on downloading Palm Desktop s/w from palm.com. Won't know how succesful this is for at least a couple of days! Will let you know nearer the time.

Once again, thanks for all your help so far.

PS: Just got the covertec flip top leather case for the sony peg-sj30 - fantastic!
