Does anyone knows how to fix the following error when sending e-mail from Clie Mail? (using Sony's WiFi Card)

SMTP:550 3.1.1 bad address syntax spi@

Am able to download my e-mail but unable to send. The account is a POP3 and all server settings are correct. I've tried other POP accounts and all authentication methods but nothing works.

Thanks in advance.

Seems like you typed in your email address wrong?? That's what I would check. Usually a syntax error is an invalid text entered.

I tought that too. But I have verified everysingle bit of the configuration and everything seems to be fine. Furthermore, I deleted the original account and replace it carefully bit by bit once again, but nothing seems to work. (Also tried with another POP3 account on another server but now the error is host not in rcphost list or something like that)

Any other idea?

Thanks 4 your reply Cerberus

Is you e-mail account on the same internet provider as the one that you are connected to? What I mean is that if I you have an e-mail account on X ISP and you try to receive that mail from Z ISP you are going to be successfull, but if you try to send then it isn going to happen. I think to prevent spam.

POP is used to receive e-mail, SMTP is used to send. In Clie Mail, check to see if you have the right SMTP server. While it's possible that it's the same as the POP server, it likely will not be. Based on the error message you're showing, I'm guessing that you don't have an SMTP server specified.

In ClieMail: Options, Accounts, (select the account), Edit, Server.

The broadband connection and the account are from the same provider, but I don't think it could be a spam-block or something since the same layout is carried on the desktop and notebook pc's in the network, and those are working flawlessly.

I've double-checked the server settings and they're as provided by the ISP (both are the same prodigy.net.mx address). Also, I've tried old server settings specifically named pop.prodigy.net.mx and smtp.prodigy.net.mx but they do not work. The same account is configured on a desktop pc and is running without problems.

Any other ideas?

Thanks to you both.

I had a similar problem, getting smtp 550 error and could not send email. I change the accounts settings, under more, then authentication to smtp auth. This fixed the send problem.

Not sure this may be helpful hint in your case. When you input the authentication account information. The format may make a difference on different device. I found one case lately on Exchange server/smart phone case. You have to enter the account as username@domainname.com format. The traditional domainname\username does not work on the smart phone even though it worked on PCs.

I have exactly the same problem. But I have not been able to solve the problem yet. However, when I use Clié mail via GPRS, using the same POP and SMTP configuration, I have no difficulties in sending mail. A mystery to me too!
