Sure, Sony eluded it will introduce a patch to use the new MS Pro, that if the recent "upgrade" is an indicator, watch out.
Or better still they will deny that they ever said there would be a patch, like the CF drivers.

Well I think I will by 2 just in case I loose the first one...
No, no maybe I will take out an insurance policy on it...
Let’s see the cost of the card and all the lost data...
What would that be worth...?
How does a NX user spell abuse?
S.O.N.Y.
I will be looking to go back to the land of Palm when the next generation of units come out.
Everyone who knows me knows I am not known as a money stingy person.
I have all the latest electronic toys, and want more.
Let’s just say I have a Nextel account for the walkie talkie phones.
A Cingular phone cause I like the idea of playing with the Gait technology…
A BlueTooth SpeakFree phone cause it’s a Bluetooth.
You get the idea, but this is abusive…
Oh yeah you spell abusive SONY…
Forgot…
well 128mbs are around 50 each now w/rebates so you could just buy enough to get 1gb. It would only cost around 500.

If you don't need a gig of storage, don't buy it and don't complain about the price, like if you don't need a 2 megapixel don't buy an NZ and don't complain about the thickness. I finally bought my first 128 and managed to survive running a 32 and a 64 for 6 months. How did I ever survive? 128's are cheaper than dirt now and if you can live with that limit, than snatch up a bunch of them. I think the desire for the latest and greatest is going to drive everyone over the brink.

Why is everyone so freaked out about the $800 price. You are all crying rip-off, but SanDisk announced 1GB CF cards at the same price. These large cards require high density memory chips, and they are expensive.
And remember, this is the "suggested" list price, for a brand new format. It will be available at discounted pricing, and it will get even cheaper over time. Remeber how much the 128 MS was when it forst came out, and look at what you can get them for now.
Sheesh, people. Take a chill pill.

When new memory comes out like this (like when a 1GB SD or 1GB CF card first comes out) it is usually very, very expensive. This is normal. Do not be so surprised. The price will go way down. 128s are at $50 before rebates now. They used to be MUCH more, at least 3x as much.

hey man, this price is worth it. I'll just sell my nx and my current 128 so i can buy a 512... and then i will... oh wait, crap!
haha, j/k i don't care about them really that much, would be nice to watch a full movie in good quality though, but not at that price, ah well, patience is a virtue.
Enjoy.

I'm happy with my 2 128's at the moment. One for MP3s, one for 30/45 minute tv shows.

-Technology is expensive. If you can't afford it, quit b!tching about it. That isn't going to make it cheaper. The 1Gb stick is on par with the release prices of the other memorysticks(about $1 a meg). It will come down.
-I can't afford a Maybach 57. That doesn't make it any less of a car. Just because you can't afford a mem. stick doesn't mean that Sony is out to screw you over. The prices are realistic. Sony has always been priced above their competitors. They also do well pricing themselves this way. You get what you pay for.

I have to agree with n0m0n. I love the clie but man I like the functionality of the palms, man if they can add a camera and pretty little screen, hmmmm I think I would by both.

I'll get a new stick a while after they come out, just because they are supposed to be so fast, something like 10 times faster then CF cards.. So for the speed, yes, I will bite.

Memory Stick PRO will be the only format to be able to stream full bitrate MPEGs without issue... It will also make their digital cameras nearly as fast as conventional film models -- perfect for action shots and all that.
There's a reason for the cost. Still, I bet I'll be able to buy a 512MB PRO for $299 or less by summer.

Stop *****ing at the price. You know it's going to be high -- it's Sony. Sony makes high end (and more expensive) stuff. You should have known this when you bought a Clie. Also, remmeber that memory sticks are smaller/thinner than CF cards (which are also a lot slower than mem stick pro).

Are these new Memory Sticks (The Pro Models) compatible with any Clie's? I have a SJ20 (sorry im not as smart as some of you guys with keyboards and colour screens and what not...), and I spend a lot of time away from my computer, as I am still a student and can only reach my home computer once a week. I need a lot of storage. I saw on another site regarding Clie's that sony is bringing out some adapter - the Pro model slides into some adapter "sleeve", and then fits into any Old Memory Stick slot, but then the memory stick does protrude a bit from the Slot. Or are those "Dual" Memory Sticks better buys?
Sony has said it will release an update for OS 5 systems. The sleeve is for memory. stick duo to fit into normal memory stick slots. Looks like the only option is more sticks or a MS select (cheaper to get 2 128mbs i think)

the 1GB MS is a ridiculous product at a ridiculous price. it actually bolsters the fact that SONY will NOT have the balls to release CF drivers. check the performance specs for a CF microdrive here:
http://www.hgst.com/hdd/micro/datasheet.htm
the microdrive is CHEAPER and FASTER. given the choice, who would choose an MS at 3x the price?

Baloney is a slang spelling of Balogna that specifically means "Nonsense" rather than "Chopped up lips and tongues stuck in a skin". That's according to American Heritage Dictionary anyway :) .

Why would Sony release CF drivers instead of a 1GB mem stick? THey wouldn't make any money on CF sales. They're running a business, and all they want is money. That's all any business wants.
Also, the microdrive is dead if you drop it. Also, you can't use wifi on your device at the same time then (making it pretty useless to wifi users)
Memory sticks are always expensive when they first come out. They drop in price, a LOT. Look at the 128MB. Hell, look at CF even... I bought a 32MB for $70 and thought it was a great deal a while ago. ANd if you say SD etc were cheaper when they first hit 1GB... this is SONY. Sony is high end. Sony is expensive. You should have realized this when you bought your Clie. You're paying a premium just to have the SONY name on there.

Are the microdrives like normal drives with the spinning ? if so they would take up more precious battery life right?
How do u know they die when dropped?

If you check the microdrive specs you'll see it has a shock spec of 175G. I asked my company reliability engineer what that meant to me and he said you could drop it down a flight of steps and it would survive just fine.
I have a Casio 3000 camera with a 340 Meg Microdrive and I did, not on purpose mind you, drop it down a flight of concrete steps two years ago. Both the camera and microdrive survived just fine.
I'll wait until the CF drivers are available for my NX70 and buy a 1G microdrive. I've seen them for under $200.
Standby current is only 20ma for the 1G microdrive. I don't expect it would impact battery time much. Certainly the MS Pro would use less power.

About the price, you have to admit, 800, i mean have you ever, or would you even ever consider spending $800 (ok lets say 6 or 7 after rebates, discounts, whatever) on RAM (cuz that's what it is) for your computer?
Or imagine spending $800 on a hard drive; ikes! I'm glad they are coming out with it, just wish I had that much disposable income...
Regardless, I'm looking for these $50 128mb sticks, checked ebay and when the auction is over they run more towards high 60s, then after shipping $75-80. best buy I see has em for $90 - where can I get em for $50?

Best Buy has them for 50 bucks after 10 rebate (this week). I bought two at Office max several weeks ago at 49 (no rebate required).

Will this "Patch" be written by their support team??
Then expect it to not work, void your warranty, and not be able to be serviced after you have hab it for a mere 5 HOURS!!!!!!!!
See ever been hosed by sony in general thread for why i am so bitter

huh.... that's strange, you'd think a mail-in-rebate would also show up online at bestbuy.com since it's from the manufacture... I'll have to go look in the best buy ad, or maybe I'll just wait it out until there's no mail in rebate.
I'm still waiting on a rebate from December; you know they won't print you out two receipts anymore for rebates (at least for cell phones), so if they decide not to send you your money you have nothing to contest it with... great huh?
