The latest version of Handyshopper was just released, which should be good news for all non-NX Clie owners.
---- HandyShopper 2.7.3, build 5009 (2/9/2003) ----
Added support for Sony OS 4.x high resolution devices. They can even draw the OS5 format high resolution icons. See Icon Manager for an icon editor capable of editing the high resolution icons on Sony OS 4.x devices. Also, most of the icon set artist companies are working on high resolution icon sets at the moment; keep your eyes peeled!
I saw this, but other than icons, where else is hires being used. I could'nt find any preferences, etc., and my display looks the same as previous versions. No other references in the readme either.

I think it's just updating the icons; it already provided high-res text support.
That's right. I always kept think that support for smaller size fonts would be provided.

It already has a thinner font, which looks great on the NX, but looks awful on my wife's SJ30. When I get home, I'll beam this new version to her and see if the thin font now looks good on hers.
One other thing to mention. Not only is Chris Antos making such great apps (Handyshopper and Colorize) as freeware, but he also just sent 1000+ lines of code to CESD, the developer of DB5, that will allow DB5 to also support high-density icons on OS4 devices!!

HandyShopper is one of the best apps out there - and free. It has so many capabilities, the application are endless. And it keeps getting better....

Hires is used for all bitmapped graphics in 2.7.3 (doesn't cover fonts). If you look closely, the display doesn't look quite the same as previous versions -- for example, the buttons at the bottom of the main list view are hires, the popup calculator is hires, etc. Icons are the main thing that benefit from the new hires support, but also all the hires bitmap resources in HS get an instant facelift as well.
