Check under my computer/properties/hardware/device manager to make sure that you don't have a port conflict.
I get that error message sometimes too, but usually just once. I then just hit sync again and it usually works.

On a bad day I will get the port in use error once or twice, but I usually go right threw the second time. Most of the time though it goes on the first time.

Click on hotsync icon in the task bar--make sure the network and local is using the same port as the bluetooth adaptor go to device manager to determine this. Check the serial port com number.

no way. can't get a connection. Everything is configured as it should be, but always "port in use". I tried it nearly 100 times with all possible combinations ;-(
I found this pdf (http://www.logitech.com/pub/pdf/bluetooth/enu/palmos_based_pda_how_to.pdf) and followed all advices, but i can't hotsync via BT

Not sure if you're using a Bluetooth USB adapter or not.... I'm using 3Com's Bluetooth USB Adapter.
I had a similar frustrating COM port conflict everytime I tried to Hotsync with the adapter. On accident I exited Hotsync (right click try icon, Exit), pulled out the Bluetooth adapter and plugged it back in making sure Windows XP found it ok, then I restarted Hotsync AFTER inserting the adapter and Poof! It works.... I still had to make sure Hotsync and the adapter were using the same COM port.
Hope that helps.
