I just got a SJ20 for Xmas and was looking to upgrade it (I WANT COLOR!). I saw several posts questioning the status of the T665(since it's the model I'm interested in). I called Sony and they said it was discontinued about two months ago. I was told that there is no replacement yet. I guess I'll look for a bargain on the T665. Or maybe just go with the SJ30.

You won't regret the SJ30.

I don't know where you got your info, but I just called Sony and they confirmed that the T665C it's still very much alive.
Just to verify, I whent on line and tried to order it, the order whent through with no problems.
What I did find was, that the T665C with the free leather case was no longer available under that model number.
I just bought one 2 weeks ago, and so far I'm very happy with it.
So, who ever would like to realy own a T665C, can still have it.
Good luck to all.

Ah, but the T615C is dead.
Alas.
I prefer it to its cousin the T665 which is sounding the obsolescence death rattle.

I hope it dies soon, so Sony will replace it with an OS-5 model

I have tried many Sony Clie's over the past weeks.
Just settled on the T665. Tried some open box units at Best Buy, but had some defect problems.
I wanted to buy locally so I could return or exchange easily if problems develop. As luck would have it, CompUSA put the 665 on sale for $299. I got a new unit tonight, and it is great!
In my opinion, there is no comparison between the T665 and the SJ30. I tried the SJ30, and it is too thick (.7in. vs. .5in). Also, no MP3 on the SJ30.
I also tried an NR70U. The swivel hinge is a problem for me as it is easy to break. One of the stores told me that with the swivel hing units, it is a good idea to take an extended warranty as the hinges often wear out. (Anyone have a comment on this?) Also, length/size is too big for me.
I recommend you go with the T665 at CompUSA for $299. It is not in stock online but is in stock at many CompUSA stores. Check stock online at ww.compusa.com.
If you want to buy online, Ecost (www.ecost.com) has a great price that fluctuates between $269. and $279. after an online discount.
Good Luck!
I look forward to any comments.

It's funny how they state things in Canada. Sonystyle.ca has the T665C as a "book in advance". Guess they don't have one of those "out of stock" buttons made. :p
Also a quote regarding the unit:
You have selected a new Sony product that is about to be introduced to Canadians.
The anticipated date of arrival in Canada is January 21, 2003
Uh... it was already introduced. I have one...
Guess their website techies are slacking off... ;)

I was having a squeeky hinge problem with my NR, until i took it apart and reassebled it. did it a few hours ago and now it's nice and quite. I still think it is one of the greatest PDAs ever. It was well ahead of its time and because Sony is about to launch a 3rd generation of it in less than a year I think people truly forget how revolutionary it is compared to it's contemporaries. Who in their right mind would pick a Palm M505 or a Treo over an NR-70, they came out relatively at the same time and at the same price.

One thing I really agree on with you.
Yes, who in their right mind would choose a Palm or Handspring over a Sony Clie? Almost all of the Sony Clie's are absolutely spectacular! I simply like the size and functions of the T-665. but, I agree that if the NR and NX units fit your needs, they are super.
What I don't understand is why would anyone want to buy a unit in the SJ series? Does anyone have any insight here?
Thanks,
Alan

Unless you snap of the screen with your hand deliberately, I have not known the NR70's screen to break off.

Look at the T615, it has been gone for a while now and people are still looking for it everywhere you turn. The T655 will be around for a while. Is OS5 really that better?

Well looking at the SJ series side by side they're TINY!!! but thicker than the T series. T's are geared for more high end users, while the SJs are for more "economy" or someone that dosen't need the MP3, or the advance IR, etc.
I should have picked up the T615 when I had the chance.

Don't be so bleak...maybe [hopefully] the next unit in the T series will, at the very least, boast virtual graffiti and 320x480. I'm not too concerned about OS 5...OS 4 works great, although it would be nice. Thinner should also be a must, along with support for the upcoming 1GB MS. Why can't it also have a 'plexiglass'-type screen similar to the old palm m series?
All those N series are a bit big and overkill. I'm a gadget freak, but not a gadget geek. My 615 fits perfectly in my pants pockets, which is where I want it.

If what you say is true about Sony announcing a replacement for the T665C in Canada and you already have one - why don't you tell everyone the details about it so we don't have to keeping guessing about how the new "T" is going to look?

Hmmm... dead or not...
I think it's one excellent model... before making my purchase, I compared other brands from both Palm and Pocket PC types...and as a student and having a limit on funds, with the price of the T665 and its features (I really love the MP3 function) compared to other makes, I've had no regrets.

i have an SJ30 and absolutely love it:
the battery life is far superior to the T665.
the "footprint" is smaller: the case is thicker and shorter than the T665, so it fits in my pockets and my hand much better. this is obviously a matter of personal preference.
the screen is identical.
there is no polyphonic speaker, which is a bummer, but not that big a deal for me.
there's no mp3 player, although sony does make an accessory.
the case is plastic, not metal, but it's very solidly built.
it's all about what you want/need. if that includes a polyphonic speaker and mp3 capability, the T665 is it. for me, smaller form factor and superior battery life were paramount. the SJ30 is (was?) also cheaper, so that was nice, even though it wasn't the top criterion.

oh yeah, and the enhanced IR.
i have no desire to turn my stereo on with my clie.

You could use the enhance IR for something else than turning your stereo or TV. I used the IR for surfing, e-mail, SMS, ICQ, and organize my mobile phone contacts. I even use it to dial phone number. Othe function I use but not frequently is beaming namecard and files to other palm PDA.

Now that you've got me thinking IR, did you know that you can 'beam' from Palm to PPC and PPC to Palm? Works great with sending your 'business card'. I've also sent a .prc file to a PPC, not that the PPC knew what to do with it, but it did show up in its memory.

I never owned PPC and hence i have no expirience on that..but can PPC "BEAM" name card to Palm PDA ??

can't one do this without enhanced IR (just not as far away)?

No doubt that the SJ30 is a great PDA and a good value. Don't forget that the 665 is a 66mhz processor, compared to a 33 mhz for the SJ30. Also, they do not read/write to the MS the same way. Even a 33mhz 615 is faster accessing the MS than a SJ30.

this is true... that and the missing polyphonic speaker are the only things that bum me out about the SJ30. but as far as i can tell, there's only a few seconds difference, which really doesn't bother me at all.
it's all about personal preference and priorities. i was simply responding to the query of a poster asking why anyone would want the SJ30 over a T665.
