Hi guys,

I am planning to purchase the TJ35 in the coming weeks, and I must tell you that my visit to Compusa yesterday was just phenomenal. I asked the lady at the booth if she had any of the TJ series. She showed me to the TJ25 sitting nicely on the booth. I compared the TJ25 to the T/E, and let me tell you the TJ35 one in my book in everything except for the backlight. Sadly she didnt have the stylus, so i couldnt test it out. However from a friend's testimonial the stylus is not that bad. I tried out the many parts of the TJ35, and the most stunning detail of it all was the thickness. This was the thinnest PDA I have ever seen. I was captured by the clean/crisp detail of the new palm OS 5. THe jog dial is great, and let me tel you it works perfectly, I was able to scroll down much of the programs in a matter of seconds. The one thing that many of you are wondering about is the brightness. When I tested the brightness at full level, it seemed very clear. Although it is not as great as the TE, it is enough light to provide great detail in even the worst lighting conditions. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I agree with everything you said. I believe the brightness is fine, besides, it is always a tradeoff of bright vs battery life. I have yet to use a pda on full bright yet (IIIc, NR70, SJ33, etc).

Just wish it had a sound utility to change alarm sounds... Maybe Sony will provide one?

The brightness is way better than on the T series or NR. Maybe there are variations among different units of the same model though

I saw the TJ-35 at Circuit City and thoght that the max brightness level was dimmer than my T-665 at 75%. Maybe I have a later model T-665 (got it in April this year, just as it was phased out by the SJ-33). Also, the backlight control did have the standard slider but only four levels of brightness are offered (I usually keep my T-665 at about 15% unless I'm showing some family pictures). The OS-5 seems cool but, I didn't really like the Graffiti 2 (probably because I'm so used to standard Graffiti). As for the thin case, it's very similar to the T-series. I won't consider an upgrade until Sony offeres a similar form-factor with a 320x480 screen and a Virtual Graffiti area. (like the Tungsten T/3 minus the slider mechanism.)

I'm coming off of several Pocket PC's, and they have extremely bright screens. I got rid of my HP iPaq 1945 and got a TJ25. I'm not at all disappointed. To me, comparing brightness on this level is a moot point. I can see the screen of the TJ in any lighting, and it is very comfortable at night when I want to do a little reading.
Anyhoo...I love my TJ. I wish I had waited a week or so, and I probably would have gotten the 35 just for the extra applications it has. Oh, well.

That's where I keep my t665 and I agree that I'll be in the market only for that extra screen space. Though I do wish they had kept the wheel on the side, even as a lefty I like it there (though it's much easier for you righties!)

All I need is a t665 that has
(1) a slight scree color improvement (hard to get any better though!)
(2) OS5 simply because of the faster CPU support, graffiti 2 being editable to graffiti 1
(3) more onboard memory (32 would be nice, 64 would be insane!)
(4) retained IR+ for remote features (love my universal remote in class sometimes . . . expecially during VERY long boring lectures . . . )
(5) 320x480 and no flip screen BS.
(6) and maybe a little smaller, sure, why not.
(7) MSpro support, cause 128 isn't cutting it for music AND backups AND dictionary databases anymore.
=)

More pixels to refresh, more square inches to backlight, and less volume for a battery equals a much too short a battery life (at least with current technology). No thanks.

You're right, if those things had to some at a cost to battery life then I'd be against them as changes. BUT, I'm hoping that the next Clie would be better in these areas (new technology, more efficeincy, etc) so that it could get more battery life and still shrink the total size and a bigger screen would be nice, that's all.

It's a wish list, not suggestions for alterations to how the device is currently created, but as to how newer models could be and in which areas I'd most benefit from increased attention by designers.

Maybe it was just to simple to suggest that the next model be like mine except, well, better. I agree that battery live should not be lost at the cost of size.

This does go to show that "size does matter"

End serval's stupid comments for the night,
Serval

You can replace Graffiti 2 with standard Graffiti on the TJ35 if you can find a couple files from a Tungsten T and install them.

I can live with 3-4 hours of battery life. Silkscreens are just ugly.
