Can TJ-35 work like using TVremote?

the tj35 does not have the "enhanced ir" as some previous sony models had, neither does it have the sony remote controller application.
it has a standard ir port though, and there are rc apps out there, though i have no experience, since i'm still waiting for my tj35 to be delivered in a few days :D.
