I just got a TG-50 on Thursday. I didn't realized I needed to get a memory stick but I ordered one today. I figured out how to convert movies to the clie format and how to do everything but when I do get my memory stick, will I be able to play MP3s and movies through the internal speaker or are headphones required?

You can play Mp3/movie directly by the speaker.........
but there is only Mono output for it.............and the volume is not enough if you are in a noisy street.........It's better to get a headphone to play MP3 on the go.......

the speaker on the tg50 is actually quite good. I compared it at the store with my NR70V, and it was quite loud, if not the loudest of all the clies there. It's speaker was equal to the NZ90. I agree, headphones are required if ur seirous about music, espeically if you dont want to bug everyone aroudn you. But the speaker is more of a nice add-on if anything. It is sufficiently loud in a quiet room. But for music, the best bet is headphones

Hey, I have been slightly disappointed by the maximum volume of my TG50. I thought it was my headphones, but I just got another pair of headphones and they are just as bad. I fixed it a little bit by using iTunes to increase the noise level of the MP3 as loud as I could without distorting the music, but its still not enough for noisy public places. Is there anything I can do? I'm pretty ticked off about this, because I was concerned about this before I bought it, but then I read a review that said that the TG50 was as good an MP3 player as the Rio s40, which was what I was replacing. Otherwise, amazing device!

you coudl buy noise-canceling hearphones, I heard the sony in-ear earbud ones are quite good.

really? I never tested the tg50 with headphones, but if its anything like the NR70V, assuming they are all built the same if not better, then that should be plenty loud. I can't even listen to it on its highest volume, and at 3/4 volume, all sounds are completely blocked out. I don't know why it would be so quite for you.

I had a problem with volume in noisy places until I swiched to the earbud type - as my previous post.

Both my old headphones and my new ones were actually earbuds (sorry for the lack of clarity), but also I have tried my friend's earbuds, which are very loud with his CD player, and it is not anywhere near the level of loudness on the TG50. I think its because there is less electricity pumped to the headphones than with a CD player, as powered speakers work fine, but I really don't know much about that.

hm I don't have such a problem I even have the volume on cca 60% and can hear it on noise places pretty well

perhaps you got a bum TG-50... I use mine on the subway to work in the morning, and even there I don't need to raise the volume higher than 75%

Hmm... how would it be bum though, as the sound quality is fine. How could it still work, but with less power outputted to the headphones? I am sure that it is not loud enough, as other people have tried it and agree. It's OK at near-full volume at home where it's quiet, but I can't come anywhere near drowning out the noise of busses and the like.

i have some sony 829V's and the volume control is usefull but when you have a jacket pulled up high to keep warm they kept falling out of my ears everytime i turned my head, they're a bit chunky.

I ordered these they look sweet.

just got my sony mdr ex71SL white earphones (as pictured above) from ebay, I paid £27 including postage, they took about 16 days or so to arrive (bit slow but worth the wait)
they are AMAZING wow what bass, the main body of the ear pieces are made of a soft rubbery compound which bend to fit around the outside of your ear, i have found that alot of earphones are very long and stiff where the cable is attached and are therefore uncomfortable and get pulled out easily if you are wearing a high collard top or jacket, these sony's are great they sit very well. The actual earpiece that sits in your ear comes in three different sizes and is also very soft, it slide in to your ear and after a few mintues you forget they're even there. Oh and did I mention the bass WWWOOOWWW.
and they're in white CCOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL.

They're the best - the earbuds above - that is.

I have a set of sony ear buds that look very similar to these. What I don't like is that one ear cord is longer then the other ear cord before they meet and go into one cord to the connector jack. Hard to explain but they are a pain. My question is are the wires coming off of the left & right earduds of equal length before they meet into one wire that goes to the connector jack? Like a Y.

sadly they are the same, that is my only dissapointment, the extension cable jack makes the cable a bit heavy it kinda hangs down but i guess they wanted to make it compatable with devices that have their own remote unit. that aside, they are the best sounding earphones i have ever had and the audio quality makes up for any tiny designs flaws.

you mean they are the same length?

If you dont' want to have to use the extension cable you could have bought the LP model, which has a long cord. I got the SL model because the majority of my stuff has remotes.

I actually like the longer on one sound design, because it keeps it out of my way unlike with my previous Sony pair. That and the fact they cost 50 dollars broke my habit of chewing on headphone wires.

I believe that there was a reason for that (at least it works for me). When one side is longer than the other, you can wear the wire around the BACK of your neck, so that if you don't want to listen for a while, you can take the earbuds out and let them hang around the back of your neck, just like the non-earbud traditional headphones (the ones with the solid plastic band). It makes sense in a way and I find it quite useful. (If someone's talking to me, it's a lot easier to just take them out of my ears and let them hang from my neck, rather than taking them out and finding somewhere to put them). I'm not sure if I explained it well (let me know and I'll try to clarify), but I believe that it is a design feature rather than a design flaw.

Hey ir803,

What do you mean by "...which bend to fit around the outside of your ear" I thought these were completely inside the ear canal. Please explain.

All the ads I've seen for them only show the buds, extra bud covers, an extension & the case, but Sony's site mentions a case & earbud holders. What's this?

Sorry, I posted in one thread & my reply ended up here. Either I don't understand how this forum works or it doesn't work properly.

the actual casing of the earbud where it connects to the wire is a soft rubber compound so it is all snug and bends to fit.

well i'm loving my headphones, i agree with the above post with the first memory stick walkman the headphones were the around the back of the neck type, i hated them at first but then i grew to like them i was able to do what was said, take them out to listen to someone, the only bad thing is the base sucked on them, not the headphones that are mentioned here but the ones that came with my mp3 player, these headphones i have have a subwoofer that goes onto the back of the neck, the plastic band lets me pull them down onto my neck just like street style headphones but they're still in the ear like i like, when i first found myself liking sony products, i jokingly swore i'd never buy anything but sony............i've defected to laura crofts style (panasonic is her favorite brand cause they bought the rights to the cradle of life)

ok i know thats entirely off subject but i like my headphones and they aren't sony, unless you're trying to match the name brand then these are ideal headphones for the type of person that likes the street style headphones but has to use the ear buds so no one else hears the music, and also wants a sub in the back, its really nice actually..........ok i'll let panasonic brag to you, its in my signature
