View Full Version : Hacking MOV into MQV?

When I change the .MQV extension of a Clie movie into .MOV, it will play in the Quicktimeplayer on my PC, and the info window says it's a regular MPEG-4 file with a mp4 elementary video stream and audio stream.

But, the other way around, when I compress a movie with the Quicktime Player into a .MOV with basic mpeg-4 video and audio, and I change the extension to .MQV, it will not play on my Clie UX50.

How is this possible? Why doesn't the Clie recognize the file? Is it some bit in the file header? Or has anyone managed to manipulate MPEG4 files to play on the Clie? Any info appreciated.

Well I don't know much about this or the UX50, I have an NX70. But I think the file has to be in a certain format for it to work and thats why you need image converter. At least I think thats the way it works for the NX70. Did the UX50 come with special software to convert things?

I think we need to change QT export's settings... Can you tell us about the settings you're using?

I want to try this to play on my NZ..

Thanks.

Just drag the MOV file into image converter and it will do it for you.

I think it makes the file smaller too (compressed)

I mean "how to use QT to export QT MPEG-4 video which can be used by CLIE directly w/o using IC?". I'm asking for QT MPEG-4 settings...

Good luck. That's what the Image Converter is for. Why would you want to go through the trouble of figuring out the Quicktime export settings when Image Converter already does what you want it to. Oh well, good luck and be sure to post your results if you figure them out. I'm sure somebody would like to know!! :D

"image converter" only works on windows. and it works... slo...w......ly *cough*

how on earth sony is using an apple based codec that cannot be encoded on an apple is beyond me...
