"..Sony's Smart Lithium rechargeable battery offered longer life than we expected. With the screen brightness set at the halfway point, the CLIE played MP3s for 3 hours, 27 minutes before the music stopped. We also expected the camera's flash to exact a harsh toll on the battery, but we squeezed out 107 shots before the camera winked out--and there was still a 35 percent charge left, according to the meter...."

Guess that kills the rumour of the flash 86'ing the battery.

Kinda wondering why it won't support the new MS's. I'm guessing it'll go the route of the NX, and they'll release the support in a patch.

There will be a patch put out for the NZ also.

Hmmmm

I cant wait until someone buys one and tries it out for a month, I want to see if the size will be an issue for day to day things.

I rememeber when I bought my NR model, I thought the size was fine, but 6 months in I really started to hate the length of it. 8 months into it I had myself a new Tungsten and got rid of the NR. :)

Will keep you posted, TB. Right now I use my NX daily, probably 3 hours of input and on/off an easy 20 times (plus in and out of the case.)

PS: thanks Ocell

Two things that bothered me:

The NZ90's camera snaps fairly impressive shots. At the camera's highest setting of 1,600x1,200 pixels, pictures looked clear and had minimal speckling and noise, thanks to the built-in flash. This camera won't take the place of a dedicated Sony 2-megapixel digicam such as the Cyber Shot DSC-P31, but it is the best integrated camera that you'll find on a handheld or a phone; its image quality compares favorably to that of certain entry-level cameras in the $150 to $200 price range.

The bad: Bulky; camera is slow to start up and shut down;

Not sure now...I thought the camera startup would be just as fast as the NX70, wonder how long of a delay it is

I really wish there images postedo nreview that show what nz90 can do

This review is about what I expected. I wondered if anybody would be concerned about this being your "everyday" PDA. Someone had made the observation that $800 would make you less likely to want to carry it with you on a daily basis. While I still feel that you need to use the machine regardless of what you pay for it, I do wonder if this is a little beyond the average users needs and therefore not as useful for a "workhorse" PDA. I'm really starting to be more swayed by smaller, rock-solid stable machines. Like Tbellas, I think that if I upgrade, it will be to a TT, unless Sony comes out with a comparable model. Upgrading for me will be almost entirely dependent on > 16 megs of ROM and perhaps a more stable OS system with better backwards compatibilty than OS5.

If you check out the review that Ed Hardy did on Brighthand, you will be able to see some shots that were taken with the NZ's camera.

Littlesix,

I had posted this somewhere else, but Sony intended to send a patch for the NX/NZ from the beginning, for the MS Pro.

Here is there news site.

Thanks Ceasar.

As to the cam taking a long time to start/stop, who's to say what that means. Compared to my datebook program or one of the others, it takes a long time now. Who's to say that it doesn't take the same amount of time on the NZ?

Thorough review, but it didn't change my mind.

I think their value system is a bit hoaky. They give the Handspring Treo 90 a 7 for features, yet the NZ90 only gets an 8 for features???? huh?? Granted the NZ90 has some faults, but feature rich is the NZ's strength... The Treo doesn't have an MP3 player, remote control function, high res. screen, camera, dual expansion slots, bluetooth, OS 5, AV output, WI-FI capability, fastest palm processor...and the list goes on! The Treo doesn't even come close to Sony's low end PDA's!!
Sometimes these people who write reviews think they are the authority on everything! I take it all w/ a grain of salt.
