Hi every one, been reading through this great forum for a couple of days and after a bit of browsing ordered a NX 73v.

I have a 128Mb memory stick ordered with it but i would like to get a compact flash card as well, my question is whether the speed of the compact flash cards out there i.e x40, x20 will be noticeable with the NX 73v or is the speed only for digital cameras, also do i have to get type 2 or will any compact flash card work.

thanks

Jason

Yeah, you might want to be wary of microdrives though. I know they CAN work, but I'd check compatibility first. Cheers, Ben

microdrives are read only with nx/nz series of clies.

The speed of the card will play an important role, but it depends what you are doing with it. Not so much will it affect audio reading/writing, but defintely if you are dealing with high definition pictures, or large volumes of video and such.

I confirmed that micro-drive are read-only on Clie NX.

Also remember a VERY important factor : a micro-drive requires 10-12 times more energy when accessing and 80 times more in standby when compare to MS or CF card. You'll drain the battery in no time...

I have a MS-128 and a CF-512 and that is just perfect to carry about 8-10 equivalent CD (converted to mp3) with me. I think it is possible to find even larger CF cards nowadays.

cool. Yeah, I know you can get 1 gig flash cf(meaning not microdrive) and I guess they really would kill the battery. I might get one of those with my next pda(flash)... i could carry around a couple whole movies and hundreds of mp3s and unlimited apps and pictures and insane junk. Somebody at cliesource has an nx80 w/1gig ms AND 1 gig cf.. I'm gonna kill him and get it, don't tell the cops

1gb cf will use the same amount of power as a 16mb cf.
In fact all flash memory uses the same amount of power (indistingushably the same).

Read the article on flash memory on howstuffworks.com if you do not believe me

microdrives will use more power because it is of a different technology.

I have seen these 1 Gig and even 4 Gig compact flash cards, the 4 Gig Lexar is £880.00 pounds very pricey, but as i understand it (I am probably wrong) the 1 Gig compact flash is faster than the 1 Gig sony Memory stick pro and both are able to be used in the same way, ie play movies, mp3 photos save apps etc
