Is it just me?
I'm used to surfing the web:
1) with my supplynet cable to verizon phone using Quick2Net service
2) Bluetooth connection via PC connected to cablemodem LAN
I just tried surfing wifi on our school network.
I got one box of wifi connection (out of the 3 from the status bar)
and it seemed like wifi was DOG SLOW in terms of logging me into yahoo email or just surfing websites.
I always imagined wifi to be blazingly fast on our UX50s. Am I just dreaming? Or was it just probably a bad connection?

If youre getting only one blue square in the status bar, it means that the WiFi reception signals are to weak.
Just get closer to the access point so you have 2-3 "boxes" (or maybe your school uses p2p connection, which is limited to 2mbps).
Yeah, there could be any number of points in between your UX and yahoo/other websites that could be the bottleneck.
There were time when my connection seemed slow and other times my connection seemed fast (even with the cache cleared).
Maybe you could try a wifi laptop and the UX side-by-side to do a speed comparison to make sure the bottleneck is not the UX.

Today I connected to an access point at the mall. I had 2 blocks of wifi connection ~30-40%.
Yet I couldn't seem to open any webpages. it just kept saying Invalid Network settings after a lot of lag and delay (I couldn't exit netfront or webpro while it was delaying...)
what gives?

Well ... I use my NX to connect via Windows RAS (directly thru the cradle) and it IS slow. I dunno about WiFi but it can't be much faster.
I don't know about your school network, but some access points are connected using only dial-up connection. So even 2-3 persons trying to surf in there can really slow it down.

thanks for the comment Marre.
I guess I just expected too much.
I was using a data cable before connecting to my Verizon network.
Im wondering if I switch to Tmobile and the bluetoothed T610, would bluetooth GPRS connection be faster than wifi or even slower?
and how would it compare to my supplynet cable through my Verizon phone in terms of speed???
thanks.

Nothing browsed through Netfront can be considered fast when compared to a PC workstation. Even when I am sitting right next to my WAP, the browsing on my handheld is slow.

I found it to be really slow as well. I'm using the same exact connection as my roommate's laptop, but my clie is really slow to load up pages. Plus the entire thing becomes unresponsive for like 10-15 seconds when you try to load a new page.

dah I hate the unresponsiveness! It always makes me think my CLIE crashed.

mmm youre scaring me..... I'm planning to buy a UX50, so no one has loaded wepages fast enough using wifi?

At Howard U, the WLAN is resonably quick. My UX-50 isn't as fast as my old Powerbook G3 (running Jaguar), but it is still quite a bit faster than GPRS service (my Sidekick is a hair faster than 56k)

I think it is quite suitable for viewing mobile pages (pages specifically designed for handhelds). For regular pages it could be quite slow.

WiFi works allright. No slower then a modem. I use it on all 4 levels of my house. A little slow but I can check out ebay and yahoo jsut fine.
For a built in unit I can live with it.

I've had no problem with WiFi here at home with a NetGear Access Point and Cable Internet service. It isn't as fast as a laptop with 802.11b, but it is plenty fast to browse standard websites.
The only slow part (that I don't like) is when the Clié connects to WiFi originally and when it disconnects from Wifi. I assume this is due to the actual hardware being turned off and shut off entirely due to power concerns tho', so it doesn't bother me.
