View Full Version : Doc to go Premium Edition 5 - Is it worth it?

I am thinking of upgrading the Documents to go version to the Premium Edition 5.0. Mainly because I would like to have a graphic option in Excel and also the idea of using Powerpoint on the Clie is great.
Is it worth the $ 30? Or is there another programme that is better?
Also the TextPLus from Dataviz sounds quite helpful (It contains a fully customizable dictionary based word and phrase list to help complete words and phrases after one or more letters are entered.) Again, is it worth the money, or is there a similar programme available for less money? And does it really make the Clie life easier?
Sorry, a lot of questions in one thread, I know .... ;)

Hi wees,

DTG Premium is great, I tried QuickOffice, but DTG beats it! Great in hires+!! Get it!

I have DTG Premium and think its worth it. Its not perfect though and uses allot of space. I chose it way back when because Dataviz Mail would sync with Lotus Notes. It was great to get attachments and be able to open and edit on my Palm! That's the biggest advantage. The premium will allow you to open a greater variety of attachments. Some programs are bettered by competing stand alones. Also, if you want to check mail from the web, there is now InBoxToGo. I think this kinda replaces Dataviz Mail.

If your going to view and compose basic PPT slides, the Dataviz program is OK. Animated bullet points don't work and some of my large PPT files wouldn't convert too. It, like the Acrobat Reader capability aren't good replacements, except for files with basic text content.

If you need to read Adobe documents, the free reader from Adobe is better than the Documents to Go reader for PDFs. The down side is that it takes up a lot of space for that one function.

Thanks for your replies, any comment on the Textplus from Dataviz? Does that really make writing easier?

I have just uppgraded form DTG Standard to Premium, mainly because in my job I always need to update reports and compose PPT presentations.
My personal finance spreadsheet has several graphs that I was missing when using DTG Standard.
Before DTG I needed to carry my notebook as an 'accessory' to my palmtop.

As for the TextPlus, I am using it for almost 2 years, using both English and Portuguese 'lexicon'. t is one of the mos useful Palm utility I've ever seen! If you need to write notes (anything) frequently, you won't move back from TextPlus.
Anyway, you can try it before registering :)

Am I understanding the the Premium edition of DTG WILL support HIRES+?

The standard version that came with my NR70V does not. Should it?

Thanks.

dstolarski:
try downloading the "Sheet To Go High Resolution Update" from Dataviz site (http://support.dataviz.com/patches.html).
I believe you have to be a registered user of DTG Standard that came with yoour Clié. It is free of charge.

Word To Go Premium works on HiRes+, and supports some of Microsoft Word docs graphics. It doesn't supports JPG or GIF images included in a Microsoft Word file :(

Correcting my last message: DTG Premium supports some graphics/images in a Word file.
I have some files that DTG didn't convert properly, while other files were converted OK.
Didn't realized yet why.

Thanks for the heads up rmaceira on the dataviz updates. I was unaware of any new patches.

Cheers

yes, I have. And I have fitted it on the screen, so I can see the sctual slides, but it doesnt show any graphical things (not even from the slide background). It is just like a b/w word type of document :(

I did add the upgrade to the standard edition that came with my NR so that it is Hires.

My question about the premium edition is dow it support hires+ (full screen 320x480).

That's my question too, and if it does I will upgrade.

Just came across this deal from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/software/B00006IZB4/rebate-info/102-9935414-2486560)...looks interesting.

Word to Go and Sheet to Go both support HiRes+ in the Premium Edition, but Slideshow to Go does not.

I still haven't sorted my Slideshow to go problem - not graphics whatsover when I open Presentations. And I just noticed that my Word to go is Hires+, but my Sheet to Go not. Anybody any idea, what could be the problem?

Slide show doesn't use the full screen and, for me, doesn't always show images on my slides. These slides usually have timing and animation settings. You might wanna test a slide without the tranisition and animation settings-just text and maybe one image.

I think basic slide shows work well.

I will try that, sounds like a possible solution. Thanks
