I have a 128MB Lexar MS. Now when I try to access it, or upon insertion, I get a Fatal Alert box that says Fatal Exception after which forces a soft reset. I tried a 8MB Sony MS and no problems.

After reset, I can go to the CardInfo application and it tells me the info it should. I can also access the card through ClieFiles. The Fatal Exception only appears to pop up when I try to access the card through the launcher (either launcher view) or when card is inserted.

I have been doing a lot of moving files back and forth lately trying to free up memory and seeing what will run from the MS, or not. Jackflash is on my purchase list. I could use the extra 4.4MB of flash.

Anyone have any idea what may be wrong? Is the Lexar MS bad? I don't have MS reader device to try it on.

I ran into a similar situation last night as well. I had tried to install a .PRC program to my NX73V via the Install Tool but to (a Sony 128Mb) Memory Stick (MS) instead of to the Handheld option. After the HotSync operation, the CLIÉ gave a Fatal Error message and said to do a soft reset.

After the reset, and trying to click on Sony's Launcer, the CLIÉ gave me the same dreaded message. When I popped the MS out of the unit and soft reset, no problem. When I reinserted the MS back into the unit... Fatal Error.

Fortunately, I have a Sony VAIO laptop with Memory Stick support so I inserted the MS into the laptop and navigated to the directory holding the .PRC file and deleted the file in question.

After that, I popped the MS back into the CLIÉ and did a soft reset and everything was in working condition again. Of course, I had to do a restore from the most recent MS Backup I had to get my information back onto the CLIÉ.

Hope this gives you some insight into your situation and hope this remedy helps you as well! :)

Just go into CardInfo and reformat the card. That should resolve your problem. If not, the card is defective.
