Hello everybody. I need a favor from you all.
I'm looking for a small, straight to the point program that will let me read standard .txt files (not having to convert it to anything).
Hi Res is optional, but OS5 support is a must, or I won't be able to run it on my NX.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can use either iSilo or TealDoc to read .txt files stored on the flash card in appropriate folders.

If have not to convert file I suggestion McText. It bundle with McFile. You can use McText read *.txt in MS directly.

Why do have to make your life so difficult?

You can simply copy and paste your txt file contents into a new memo pad and sync it into your pda.

tubbycub - not a practical idea if your novel or ebook is over 4k (some novels exceed 200kB).
As an unregistered davidy said - Isilo (even in shareware expired mode) or TealDoc will run on OS5 and read plain documents and read off the MS.

ssssss - I posted the following in your other thread you started with the same subject under Apps (and shouldn't this be under Apps too?) -

"Actually Docs to Go (which should be standard with all Clies I think) will do TXT files. Just create them first on your PC and sync them with Docs to Go. I have a couple of TXT files (timeclock.txt, "stuff I need to order.txt") that I use this way and it works great. Hope this helps!"

Maybe you did not understand, but Docs to Go really does not convert the TXT file to anything. On my PC my TXT files stay as TXT files, and on my Clie with Docs to Go they work fine like that. Did you try this? If not, what exactly are you looking for?

PInstall will allow you to install a txt file...it automatically converts it to pdb when it installs it...just drag and drop.

Docs to go converts the .txt file into palm format and vice-versa. It seems unchanged. PInstall as well as many other convertors with or without conduits convert .txt files into pdb files.

To keep in line with the request, (ie without conversion), iSilo and TealDoc will do it. However the .txt file has to be kept on the flash card. Palm will not allow a .txt file to be installed into RAM as is - it needs to be converted into a .pdb. The standard format is the doc format. The uncompressed doc format is just a .txt file with palm file headers added to the beginning of the file.

Conversion is a hassle in my book. It is an extra step that takes up time and requires special converting software. May not have convertors at public computers or those at work.

CF2DOC is a great palm program that converts .txt on flash card to palm doc format on RAM. It will also convert any doc format in RAM into .txt format in any subfolder on the flash card. It is also freeware. However, it can be slow even on the NX70V. Last updated Dec 12 2001 - so it is not optimized for the new CPU.

Yorrick . . . Actually I am registered. Don't like signing in at public computers.
