with my XN80 do I have to purchase the sony wireless lan card or will other mfg. work?

Yes, only the Sony WL-100 or WL-110. They're around $149, although I'm sure you can find better prices with a search or look around. Part of that propietary stuff...
I have a WL-100- works great. Use it in my new NX80 and my NX70.

There are several people on these boards who have advertised sony wifi cards for sale. Check the Cliesource classifieds in accessories.
