Hey there y'all... I managed to upgrade to 1.1.47 from 1.1.36 by using the old put the new PRC file into an empty backup directory and then doing a restore from MS using MSBackup....
.... just tried this on the new 1.1.54 prc file but it doesn't seem to work.... anyone got any ideas??.. or maybe my prc is wrong... anyone point me to the direction of a good known one??

I tried 1.1.54 and had no luck either.
I tried 1.1.47 but because it was designed for the larger cache of the new NXs i reverted to 1.1.36.

I have been using 1.1.47 for about 2-3 months now and it seems a lot more stable than 1.1.36.... I did find that you do need at least 3m of free space in RAM else it will start to whinge a bit....
... want to try 1.1.54 but can't get it to install.. just backed up my 70, did a hard reset and tried to install from scratch....
From Hotsync install. got a read only error for the file in the log
From MS copy to RAM got an error saying that the device memory is full (remember I had just cleared the unit to have 10M or so free)..
Think there is something odd about the file that I have,,, maybe it will only install on a UX??... got it from www.leggnet.com/clie under the Netfront_1.1.54 section..
Any ideas would be nice as the new version is supposed to be faster then the older ones and more memory efficient..

The way that I installed 1.1.47 was to use MSBackup. You create a backup of your machine. Then you replace the NF in your archive directory with the new copy. Then you hard-reset and restore from the archive.
How did you install 1.1.47 onto your NX originally? As I recall, 1.1.47 was not supported on the NX70.

just created a MSBackup.. deleted all files in the directory... copied the new 1.1.47 file into this now empty directory.. and then performed a restore.... et voila.. upgraded NF on my NX-70..
Tried same process with the new file (even with a hard reset) but it would not install

Maybe they (=developers) had learned our little tricks:-)

The way I upgraded to .54 was to simply replace the .prc file in the zLauncher shortcut directory... then when running the shortcut it used the new (.54) file.

leggnet, so you are using .54 with NX ? is it true ?
I also want to ask if the file under http://leggnet.com/clie/ is install file or the runtime file ?
(I mean if I copy it to RAM from MS , will it be ok ?)
ilkera
11-01-2003, 06:47 PM
also, it is in a directory named "... modified" , what is the modification ?
LeggNet

the file in the directory is the runtime file (not an install). If you run NetFront from a MS using either PowerRun or ZLauncher's shortcut you can just replace your NetFront3.prc with this one.
As for the question of what is modified: I used a hex editor to change the browser ID from NetFront to IE6... this way I can use it to log in to websites which require IE (like wellsfargo's online banking).

Rich, I replaced NetFront3.prc (version 1.1.47) with the one found on your site, and all I get is an error saying Database missing. I am using ZLauncher and NetFront is on the MS in /PALM/Programs/ZLauncher/Apps/NetFront3. Any idea's?

Hi Cameron,
In looking at the files on the server (leggnet.com/clie), it appears that the one in the .54 folder isn't the right size. It must've had an error in uploading. Try the one that is in the /ux folder instead.
Let me know... if nothing else, I'll upload the NetFront3.prc that I am currently running on my nx (.54).
Cheers, Rich

To avoid any other problems (and to make sure it's a working file), I've replaced the .PRC in the 54 MODIFIED folder with the one I'm currently using on my device. This one has been edited to say that it is Internet Explorer so it can be used on sights such as HotMail and other sites which require IE6.

Thanks Rich. Works great now. I tried to download the file from the Modified folder again, and though the website says it 2.0MB, it was still only 1.3MB when downloaded. No matter, the version in the UX folder worked great! :)

Thanks leggnet, after you've uploaded the modded file it works great. The bigger one (2.5MB) had gave me a reset and I had to make a warm reset to get rid of it :)
Hi LeggNet!
Thanks for uploading all those files...
tried out Netfront v.3 (1.1.5.4) on my NZ with the "MSBackup method" worked fine exept for two strange things:
1. in the Netfront browser window, at the bottom, there is the "x" missing to cancel loading!
2. Now I cannot move Netfront to MS again with PowerRun, it does not even see it, when I start PR...
Any ideas?
cheers Nicolas

UPDATE:
used FILEZ to uncheck: "copy protect" and "read only" now I can move it with PowerRun!:)
The story with the "X" in the browser window: it is there when I connect and load a page. So no trouble there either, but funny enough in version 1.1.3.5 it was there right from the start without connecting...

PS: would it not be cool to use Netfront now in landscape mode on the NZ?
Does that work with codediver?

I don't use Powerrun.. everything goes into RAM.... however the tip to uncheck 'read only' and 'copy protect' was the fix.......
Once this had been done 1.1.54 was restored using the MSBackup method. et voila.. now using it as we speak..
Thanks for the ideas guys.....

Codediver only has the ability to extend the Graffiti area on apps that don't nativly support it. It doesn't allow for switching the orientation of the screen.

thanks guys!! i got v1.1.54 working on my NZ.
first, i deleted the existing NetFront from my RAM and then did a backup through MSBACKUP.
then i simply downloaded the file from the ux folder on www.leggnet.net/clie to the MSBACKUP folder on my MS and did a hard reset. after restoring it all again, i was able to have it work flawlessly. the difference between the 1.1.36 verson and the 1.1.54 was the reload (curvy arrow button) and stop (red x) buttons were together as one. the next thing i did was run Filez and unchecked the "Copy Protect" and "Read Only" boxes from the NetFront file in RAM.
but remember to back up your existing NetFront database files before doing anything so you don't lose your saved bookmarks and such...
i have just one question though, is this NetFront v1.1.54 file "modified"? because i tried accessing hotmail but it wouldn't work...

If it doesn't work with Hotmail, then it is the original 1.1.54. You have to hack 1.1.54 by replacing the browser identity string to make NetFront work with Hotmail.

So, someone give me the lowdown. Why is it worth it to switch?
Thanks!

If you mean from 1.1.36 to 1.1.54, it's mostly to have the latest and greatest... ;-)
But seriously, there have been anecdotal reports of speedier rendering, less frequent PTL error and various sundry enhancements.
Here's a tip: I found the biggest speedup comes from periodically deleting all NetFront databases in RAM (with the exception of the bookmarks).

Ditto for me. I can't use my company's intranet because of certificate problems either. This is with either 1.1.47 or 1.1.54.

I also have a problem with some html code on a SSL page on all versions of Netfront. (I also tried WebProV)
My bank account is at https://ekocbank.kocbank.com.tr/internetsube/Intmain.Entry
I can reach this page with Netfront but when I hit the button called "Giris" after entering my account information NOTHING HAPPENS.
I wrote many times to Sony Clie Support about this but they always said " we are not providing support for web pages"
I can't understand what kind of support they provide.
If anyone understands from HTML can you just look at the site and tell me where the problem is in HTML that Netfront can not handle ?
cbulock
11-11-2003, 11:58 AM
I don't think the certificate problem is the fault of NetFront or even the websites you are trying to access. PalmOS 5.2 is the first version of the OS to have security built-in to handle websites like that. So, I believe it's more of an OS problem.

Cameron,
You may be right but then again I can say that I can login to many https sites with Netfront. Why not some of them ?
cbulock
11-11-2003, 02:25 PM
It might have to do the type of security used. I know some https sites use 56-bit security while others (like banks) use 128-bit. Maybe it's a certain type of security that is not supported on OS5.0. I'm not sure though, just kind of throwing out some possibilities.

though my problem is not about reaching the page but clicking a button on the page.

cbulock, so are you saying only OS 5.2 models can access the secured 128bit sites??
so NX70, 73 and 80 are not in the list eh?? :(

ilkera, is this only happening when you access over w-lan, or also over GPRS?
I had the identical problem with several hotspots and a system admin told me it is all about what browser the w-lan router software (firmware) approves and for some Netfront is not added to the menue yet:mad:

maybe if someone can hack and edit the netfront settings (just like the hotmail incident) maybe we can bypass the ssl cr@p......

Very many thanks leggnet, cbulock and others. I have now put NetFront 1.1.54 on my NX70V / E and have access to Hotmail, etc. - There is no way I would have been able to do this myself without the support and advice available here.
Thanks again.

I can't get netfront 3.0 to open a page on t-mobiles network. I can, however, get Blazer to work. Do you think any of the downloads suggested up top might help? If so, which one should I try?

your're right...just replace the old file with the new on the ms and it works fine. i still believe that web pro works better, though

but webPro seems to make problems on my NZ: the top part of any page is shown properly, but further down it keeps on repeating the same line over and over again...
Any idea?
I dl WebPro from your site leggnet....

I've come in a bit late to this thread (apologies!) and have got a bit confused - so could someone help me out?
I'd like to run the latest version of Netfront off my memory stick on my NX70V.
I tried the Sony install and then moving it with ZLauncher and it didn't like that at all - it wouldn't run in fact.
Could some kind soul list the instructions of where I can get the latest working prc file and exactly how I install it to my MS?
Thanks!

Hi
I'd love to know how to install Netfront on my NX70 - so how do I do it?!!!
Thanks!!!
quite easy:
1. do a complete backUp with MSbackup tool
2. delete all files except for Netfront.prc (which ever version you have)
3. use either MS import or use a MSreader to get your stick onto your desktop
4. replace in the MSbackup folder (on the MS) the Netfront.prc with the
desired version, v1.1.5.4 for example
5. restore with MS backup tool that one file
6. that is it!
Use PowerRun to move it to the card if desired
cheers Nicolas:)

I'm a bit confused by this (sorry!)
I've got Netfront on my machine but how do I move it to the memory stick? I tried moving it using ZLauncher but the machine just froze as soon as it was moved :(
(As soon as the tab containing the Netfront icon is selected, my NX70V freezes and I have to soft reset)

...well I have no experience with ZLauncher... but with PowerRun it works like a charm...

I use the european .36 version on my NX70.
By the above method I installed the .47US
Netfront starts, getting a connection with the Z-symbol seems to work, but there is always the message "Invalid network setting" when I want to access a site with my WL110
Whats that???

As per the instructions, i made a MSBackup onto my clie, deleted all the files and then copied the modded 1.1.54 NF3 into the directory. I did a restore of this backup and after a reset, voilla! I now have 1.1.54 running on my NX80. I still have the same problem though, everytime i try to run a wireless program for the first time in my session, i.e. the first wireless program i run after i turn my clie on, the clie crashes and requires a soft reset. When it comes back on the wireless fires up correctly. What's the deal?

I'd like to run the latest version of Netfront off my memory stick on my NX70V.
I use Zlauncher to move apps to memorystick. There are other programs that does this, but ZL is the best.

I've followed this thread and found it *very* helpful! I was able to successfully install NetFront 1.1.5.4 and it worked beautifully on my NX73V.
However ... when I went to see if I could move it to FLASH using JackFlash I got an error message saying that a program with that name already existed in FLASH and as a result I couldn't move the newer version into FLASH.
OK I thought to myself, I'll delete the older version (1.1.4.7) from Flash and then move the new copy over but ... JackFlash shows no NetFront program at all in FLASH!
Maybe this has been covered before and if so I apologize for the redundancy but does NetFront hide itself in FLASH somehow? Is there any way to get rid of it and replace it in FLASH with the newer version?
I'd love to have the newer version but not at the cost 2MB of my RAM ...
Thanks in advance for your help with this!!!
