What do you guys think the future of the T-series is. Do you think they will make anymore with the same case design as the T-series. Personally I love the svelt look and feel of my T615C and I would love a new handheld with the same dimensions but a virtual graffiti area and perhaps a wireless solution. The only thing I would change would be a get a better up/down button... I think the new clies are just too thick and heavy for me... What do you guys think? Heard any rumors?

IMPO, I think the T615's form factor is hard to beat. Other manufacturers have equalled it and put more features in that small size, but no one has beat it. It just feels good in the hand and looks sexy on the cradle.

Sigh. Sony has just gone off the deep end in gizmos and gadgetry.

I agree. I'll be hard pressed to give up my T665, but I really want all the features that an OS 5+ device gives us. I'm looking at the UX50, and although really cool, it's no T series. :)

So do I... But it's so much bigger... I think i'll get one for all it features but i'll keep my T625C, which is a really good machine.
I don't think the T serie has no future... look at the numerous devices sold on ebay and bought rapidely !

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying... The form factor really is unbeatable... I agree that they've definitely gone off the deep end with gizmos and gadgetry... Personally I don't need a camera.. especially if the camera is just going to add bulk... The UX is definitely eye-opening... but I'm still waiting to see what they come up with next...

I thought that my T665C was virtually irreplaceable, until the Tungsten T3. After 3 weeks of daily use, I'm convinced that the Palm T3 is the Sony T-series heir. The form factor is great, screen even a bit better than the T665C, 64 MB RAM, 400 MHz CPU, and 320x480 add up to everything we wanted from Sony but failed to get from them. Palm must have been listening.

The only one i'd really like to have next is the TG50... I'd like to test it before... Has anyone tested it ?

I tried the TG50 before. Nice design but the screen is really too small for me.
Anyway TG50 is one of another Sony's out of production model from what I heard. I thought the newest TJ is a better choice as it resembles the original T-series more.

T-series still has its own supporters, therefore it still has the market.

Now there's a question that will start a debate. :) Palm hasn't released a patch yet.

From what I've seen on the boards, and I've seen a lot, the "issue" is primarily with SanDisk cards. Folks have had problems with these cards in other devices as well, since it seems like SanDisk doesn't follow the SD standard all that closely. A few reports of other cards biting the dust, but every manufacturer has a percentage outside spec. I have two PNY (Toshiba) cards that work OK, but write extremely slowly. I ordered two Panasonic cards to replace them, but the stupid company sent me two more Toshibas. I'm pretty peeved about that at the moment.

I'm really enjoying the T3.

I think the T is going to fade away as they are not going to make anything close to it. You are right in saying that the T design is perfect and really fits well to the PDA profile. I do find it amazing that at one time PDAs where getting thinner and thinner and now all of a sudden they as almost half the size of a laptop.

Some of them would prefer a PDA which can be of any size as long as it is much smaller and lighter than his laptop.
I wouldn mind too carrying a NZ90 around because it is so much smaller than my current laptop!

I also had to get my wife on board with the purchase. My wife desperately wants my T615, and while syncing our schedules today, she asked, "Now, how much is that new Palm you want?" I told her, and she said, "Happy Birthday!" - my birthday is about 4 weeks away. I doubt she'll make me wait that long. ;)

Sounds like we both married well. When my T665C fell, my wife said that I shouldn't fix it but get something new. The T3 came out that very week--the rest is history. Ain't marriage great? :D

Lucky you. I'm taking care of two Clies as my wife still prefers the note & paper although she likes to play Bejewelled!

If I were single I would have just bought it without having to convince or justify it to anyone. ;) I'd also be able to sell my T615 for a few bucks. Just for kicks, try selling your old PDA to your wife. :)

I think that Sony feels that the TJ series IS the T series replacement.

According to you... is the trend leading to mini laptops, or smaller laptops ? Mini tablet PC or bigger keyboardless pda ?
Or something like in Ghost In The Shell ? So miniaturized that inside the body... (lol) Brains connected 24H/ a day, connected to a personnal server/info dispatcher... (dreaming...) ?

Classmates with SJXX's will ask what kind of Clié I have when I pull out my T615. I have yet to find a PDA that "fits" better in my hand.

I've purchased a T415 more than one year ago. This month I bought an SJ22 thinking of replacing my old b&w clié and it turns out that its slim design and weight are too handy to be replaced for the thick SJ22. Result: I gave the new SJ22 to my wife, who did love it. I will still be using my T-415-Rex until I find some other as elegant as mine.:)

ahoerner, you might want to check out the new Sony TJ series or even the Palm T3. I want to replace my T415 as well. However, it is hard to use a brick when you accustomed to a mere wisp of a PDA in your pocket. Sometimes, I have to double check that it is even in my pocket.

I enjoy my T665, however I wanted an OS5 device (Voice Recorder, Nicer Icons, Bluetooth) so I purchased the TT3 --- I liked that device, however the LCD was protected by plastic instead of glass, so if I pushed too hard with the stylus I would get that rainbow affect. I then took back the TT3 and picked up a Clie TG50, I thought I would hate the keyboard, but man am I faster on it... I even have huge thumbs!!! Needless to say my Brando Screen Protector for the TG50 just arrived (Awesome!) and my Sena case should be here today or tommorrow... I think that I am going to have a great time with my new pocket partner.

See, if my T665 had:
HiRes+ screen
32-64MB Internal RAM
A 5Ah battery
WiFi
The T625's jog dial
and maaaybe a CF slot

I don't think I'd need to buy a new PDA ever :)

Not too keen on OS5, since the battery-life by all accounts has been pretty dire (And this coming from a T665 owner is worrying ;)), and I assume a great deal of that is down to the high-frequency CPUs (And the backlight of doom... where the heck have LEP and OLED gotten to?!)
Not to mention all the hacks and things I'll loose. And the compatibility problems I keep hearing about...

Hey that's a point Tanker, I seem to recall you said you didn't want to goto OS5 because you'd loose the ability to run a lot of stuff, but now you're on a T3!
How'd you workaround all the stuff you lost?

Several approaches. Many of my apps worked under OS 5. I had to buy a bunch of OS 5 apps to replace the OS 4 ones I was using--SuperNames2 for PopUp Names, TealLock for EasyLock, CardExport for MS Import, etc. A few hacks/special programs have OS 5 counterparts, like ClockPop, Uninstall Manager, DALauncher5, Crash, and McPhling. I lost some DAs that I didn't use much. The app I miss most is MessagEase Stamp. The T3 version is in work, but I sorely miss the speed and accuracy of MESt. I have a kludge of EZ Keyboard and ME Keyboard that works with the slider closed, but not under WordSmith where I need it most.

All in all, it's not been a bad conversion, but it hasn't been cheap. The increase in capability has been significant in some cases, especially Uninstall Manager.

The T is dead ... long live the T ... well, sort of...

I think Sony now agrees with the T users on this thread. They replaced the T's with the thick SJ's. Now that the SJ's are being replaced with OS5 units, Sony has returned to the thin T format in the TJ series.

I loved the size of my old T415 and resisted a newer model for a long time despite it rather dim screen. After using the T415 for a year and a half, the TJ's feel right to me.

I've now replaced my T415, although I went for a machine that really fits my needs better. I got a UX50, but I needed the WiFi Internet connection and the larger 480x320 display. I use it as more of a notebook replacement that a traditional PDA.
