Can anyone help me with why my external speaker sometimes will work and then won't? The earphones seem to work fine, but if I want sound from the speaker, it doesn't always work, I have checked the system and the sound is checked for HIGH. Is there a solution or is this a bug? I do use it also for photo stand with the music on it. Anyone know? Acorns5

Does anyone have this problem? My T665C external speaker sometimes will not function. Even though I have selected the sound as ON and the volume as HIGH. I can plug in the earphones and they will work. Surely someone out there has the expertise or a solution for this one. I have not received any reply on my former post. Help?! Can a moderator help me on this one?
Is it a glitch or am I not doing something to make the external speaker function? Thanks, Acorns 5

Same problem happened to my t665c.
I think I dropped mine too much though, I just tap the back of the unit where the speaker was and it will work.

But anyhow, I don't use it anymore since I have the nx73.

sometimes mine will play regular sounds through both speaker and jack, but only mp3s through the jack. then i do a soft reset and it will play the mp3s through the speaker too
. i dunno if my problem is similar though.

Back in the day when I still use my T665c,

I use to have to tap the back of the unit where the speaker was every now and then. Never had problems where sound was playing through both speaker and audio jack though. Perhaps you should try to send your unit back for repair.

I guess try to do a hard reset, perhaps there're problems with your library of the audio player.

However I don't believe they will fix it for you now because I do believe the T series has been discontinued.

Just been following this thread with interest...

My t675c had been exhibiting some odd speaker/headphones problems. I've been using audio player to listen to MP3 files from a magicgate MS. No problems to begin with, I could listen to music through headphones and speaker, however later I experienced the following problems (may/may not have been related to installing a game demo):

1. External speaker did not work with MP3 files (no big deal)

2. Plug in headphones and can hear mp3, however if I press 'stop' and then 'play', no sound BUT pulling headphone jack out and then in again works!!!

Am convinced this is a S/W problem as a soft-reset cured all probs :)

This topic has been discussed in the past. I own a T-665C also, but don't use it for MP3/ATRAC playback and have never used the headphones, consequently, I've never experienced any audio problems. The problem isn't a bug in any software, but more likely a mechanical problem with the hardware. The headphone jack that Sony chose for the T-665 is very thin (internally) and DELICATE! It cuts sound to the external speaker by shorting the speaker output, allowing output only through the headphones (exactly like a portable radio or boombox), if the spring that's supposed to spring back in the jack is worn, the external speaker may remain off. If you suspect a software glitch, then try deleting the suspect program to see if normal operation of the speaker returns, if not, you'll need to send the unit to Sony to have the headphone jack replaced/repaired. Once repaired, be careful in the handling of the unit while the headphones are plugged in, don't bang or lift the unit by the headphone jack/wire. This could be challenging because the jack is on the side. Notice on all of the newer models with MP3/ATRAC ability have the headphone jack on the top of the unit where it doesn't get squashed in a pocket or case. I hope this info is helpful!

Thanks for the good advice, I will make sure the jack socket is treated with care... Luckily my problem does still appear to be s/w related and linked to a racing demo I downloaded. As soon as this kicks in the problem is back. A soft re-set sorts it out. Have now removed the offending demo and have no problems at all
