I've been merrily plugging along for some time with my Clie NR70, but today I've run into a problem with installing, synching, and running the palm desktop. It appears my user data has been lost of corrupted.
If I run the install tool, I get a popup that says "Unable to locate USERS.DAT! Exiting".
If I try to run the palm desktop, it shows the create user/profile dialog with no entries, and if I try to create either a user or a profile, it replies with "Could not add user 'Username'. 'Username' is an illegal user name, or the directory could not be created"
If I synch, I get much the same thing. It asks me if I want to create a new user, and I have to type my Clie password.
Any ideas on what's wrong and what I can do to fix it?
