I was wondering if anyone has managed to get the UX50 to mount the Internal Media and/or Memory Stick over Bluetooth, 802.11b or IrDa? My hotsyncing works fine but I find it very annoying that I have to hook up the cables to mount the Internal Media or Memorystick. I typically use the Data Import utility and it works great with the cable but I really want to do everything wirelessly.

I know an external media reader would be a solution for the memory stick but that is just as bad as using the USB cable so I might as well haul it around if needed.

The options I've considered are using SMBMate or purchasing a Bluetooth USB dongle for like 30-50 bucks so I can mount the drives but I don't really have a point in purchasing the bluetooth dongle if it won't let me mount drives.

Thanks!

I haven't been able to get Bluetooth to work with Data Import, and I've tried everything.

In the end I bought the bullet and purchased an external MS reader, and found that the Image converter utility will export directly to an attached MS, creating the directory and working out the file names, making the conversion of video onto the UX50 much simpler and faster than any other method. So there is benefit in getting an external reader.

Doesn't SMBMate do this?

SMBMate allows you to access the network FROM the UX-50 but as far as I know it won't allow you to access it from the network.

I think you might need a piece of software that would set up the UX-50 as a "server" of sorts. Someone will do it if for no other reason than it being possible.

but OS6 isn't a multitasking os so you'd have to initiate something on the UX in the foreground that did nothing but wait for something incoming. Having said that, my colleage at work pushed a file to the UX via bluetooth. Will have to ask him what he did.

Yeah, SMBMate is a solution but not my preferred solution. Normally when I'm manipulating data I would prefer to do it from the PC rather than from the PDA for file manipulation. The data import utility is nice because it mounts the shares as drives just like it is a standard chunk of media.

Other options I can think of that would be great might be an FTP or NetBios (Windows shares) server for the Palm platform. Samba for the Palm is what we need :^).
