Just a question, i had powerrun installed. So, if i had several apps transfered to my MS, will those shorcuts remains or do i have to reinstall everything, if i had my clie to do a hard reset? How does powerrun works? Does the app runs from the card or what? i heard something bout transfering to the rom ans such but din quite get what it was. Can i rely on powerrun to run apps from my MS if i am runnning short of memory on my device?

Powerrun shortcuts will go away with a hard reset, but PR has an option to refresh it's shortcuts, so you don't have to reinstall everything. Not sure if PR runs successfully from ROM using Jack Flash or not. For Powerrun to work, you will have to have enough free RAM for the largest app you move to MS, using PR, and it's databases, because PR has to copy those files to RAM when you launch the app, for the app to run.

latest version of ZL ... takes away the necessity for PowerRun. Unfortunately with PowerRun... there are some limitations to apps which will run off of the MS. I don't think.... like on a NZ ... that you can run NETFRONT from a MS using PowerRun.

It is a good app... and I have a registered copy of it... just was able to do away with it since ZL has this functionality baked into it.

on a HARD RESET you shouldn't lose your data because your programs are on the MS. You might lose your settings .... because the internal .pdb for PowerRun will probably get wacked during the hard reset.

Nothing runs from the MS

Don't let it fool you. Nothing really runs from the MS at all. What PowerRun and all the others out there do ... is simply temporarily copy the program into RAM to run.... and when you exit .. it removes it from ram once it copies the data and whatnot back to the MS.

Don't expect to have 1mb free ... in RAM ... and launch a 2mb application from your MS using PowerRun .... won't work. You must have as much free Ram (if not more) than the program and associated files have.

But will Zlauncher allows running application from MS? Or does ZL also move the app to Ram, n forth?

Like the Iceman said nothing runs from the MS....It still copies back and forth, so if you have 1 mb program you have to have at least 1 mb open on yoru Clie...

If you are using Palm OS4.1 or earlier, there is an app called PiDirect that only copies the parts necessary for an app to run to RAM. This results in much faster response than PR or ZL, but it still copies apps and dbs to RAM to execute.

Hmm, if this is the case, what is the point of using powerrun? since u need to have 1mb of space in ram if u have 1mb of apps in MS?

Since the Palm OS can only run one app at a time, using PR will allow any number of 1mb apps to share 1mb of RAM. When you launch a new one, the old one closes and PR deletes it and it's related DBs from RAM to make room for the new one. Main disadvantage to using PR is this process can be pretty slow for very large apps or DBs.

Then will apps in my PR be sync? Let say i transfer DTG6 to my MS via PR, when i hotsync, will my DTG6 be synced as well?

Some will and some won't. You need to experiment with your own apps. DTG is one that I don't believe works with PR, at least prior versions, don't know about v6.

yep, I think the main DTG application need to reside in RAM, then WordToGo & SheetToGo can reside in MS/Launcher folder or via PowerRUN will be alright. :p
