View Full Version : Since I've given up hope, I feel a lot better....

Long story short,
all this update and configuration crap isn't working. I'm about ready to throw my NX (only 6 months old) in the bay.
I just tried to use the "Hans" Image Converter and get one simple error, "Cannot convert movie files"!
The Peleca Cf driver gives me an error for the mp3 player about a missing library.
Kinoma says that even though I am a paid user of version 1.5 (6 months ago), ther will still be a fee to upgrade.
I am starting to think that paying the money is worth it.
Very Frustrated, Jay

Jay, so does that mean you won't be throwing your CLIE to the BAY? Or is it still going....? :D
I've been noticing that you're having quite a few inquiries about getting the CF Slot to work on the CLIE, then as well as trying to get movies working with Han's tool.
Then now you're also having problem with playback with AudioPlayer?

I think that error message isn't coming from Han's Converter tool, ImageConverter is very picky. Movie files might be able to play on PC, but when you try to put it throught ImageConverter it'll reject with the same error.
If you still have any hope left, you might want to try out the following program. :)
www.tmpgenc.net
Run your mpeg movie files through this program, then it will generate a very big mpeg file, you might not notice any difference, but the output file from this program always go through ImageConverter for me. ;)
The Peleca Cf driver gives me an error for the mp3 player about a missing library.
Didn't they resolve that problem for you over there already at the CF forum? Or are you still lacking that file?
Kinoma
I assume you're talking about Kinoma producer?
Because Kinoma player is free. :p

all this hassle with putting movies on your clie makes you wonder if its really even worth it.
I mean comeon it takes forever to get a simple movie converted to your clie, jumping through loops and holes.
All the time that is wasted doing converting and messing around with settings, we could be doing something much more productive with our time.
oh yea plus 15fps on our clies really sucks IMHO. I have a really high standard for video and movies just look too choppy to me. Only cartoons are a bit more bearable.

Image Converter is very picky about the types of movies it can convert. People seem to have luck with TMPGENC (Tsunami Mpeg Encoder) and I personally use VirtualDub with Indeo5 compression to create the initial files that I then run through Kinoma or IC. Most of the problems are with compressed audio. Often just creating a new file with uncompressed audio will get it working.
It's really not all that difficult. Takes a bit of experimentation at first, but once you figure it out it's actually pretty easy.

You've got a point there though, I also agree completely. :p
I've myself also had enough with all the video editing stuffs.
Spent so many time on gettting the movies just right for the CLIE.
Well, it was just the process of figuring out how & what to use to get the movies playing. Once over that, I've put an end to playing with the movies since it's just too time consuming as you've mentioned.

I disagree, it might be difficult if you don't understand the process. It took me a while to learn all this video converting stuff and it takes long time to do a conversion. Once you got pass that stage, it all became so simple to do.
For example, I use TMPGENC to convert mpeg movies. I have built a profile/template for mpeg1 format suitable for playback on the Clie. When I need to do a conversion, I just open up TMPGENC, select the template, select the files, start encoding, that's all. If I have a few files to encoding, use batch encode, go to sleep. I am rewarded with all the files I want when I wake up.
Remember, no work no play. You won't get anywhere if you don't want to learn. For me and many, it is a lot of fun to explorer all the possibilities and I learnt a lot in the process.
I agree that 15fps is chopper, but that is what my NX80V is capable of. Until I want to spend my money on something that will play 30fps, I am happy now. When I have a Clie that will play 30fps, I will be happier. Life is short, enjoy what you already have! When you can play 30fps on your Clie, you will complain that it is not DVD quality. When it is DVD quality, you will...............it will never end.....

Good sentence: "no work no play"..
And no try no gain... When CLIE OS5 just released about few months, all of us need to work out "converting" method. You can refer to many tutorials and guidelines here. Or maybe just try it by yourself. I think you can know more in the trying process.
If you compare video playback in CLIE (in both MPEG-1 and MPEG-4) w/ another Palms (especially in OS4), it is already in very high-quality. 30fps is good, but I really want my NZ supports 768kbps video...

I love DVD on my TG-50. I just toss the DVD in the PC, run Eazy VCD which is a one-click action, and makes a really big MPEG-1 file, then run ImageCoverter, and I'm done. Its really easy and I just start the action before I go to bed or to work so that those few processing hours aren't impacting my ability to play games (I mean "be productive") on my PC. Then I have ok quality dvd with great sound so that I can be ever so productive when I'm out and about...

Sorry for the rant 9which wasn't directed at you or enyone else on the forum), and thanks for listening.
No, the issue is NOT resolved. Still lacking the file. I assume it is some list of mp3s found on the clie to play them. I read somewhere that the Clie doesn't recognize the actual mp3 files, just some sort of tag.
The reason for this thread is the frustration I was feeling last night about the CULMINATION OF ALL THESE ISSUES AT ONCE.
Not to mention, there is a new OS5 program called Wave Edit Pro that I would love to have, but because of the Sony sound technology it will only work on the UX 50. Of course, it works on pretty much all the new Tungsten units.
So, I still can't get the mp3 to work at all. Nor can I get the IC to work with files that WOULD work BEFORE I added the update from Hans as well as the Peleca utility.
I hope that draws a clean enough pictute for you.

Not a problem, after all, this is the Cliesource community, helping out one another is the main key, & I personally avoid taking other peoples' statement too seriously :p.
So you're still missing a particular file? Do you know the file name? I'll see if I have it. Is it the SonyMM....Lib..prc file? (sorry I forgot the complete name) :p
& as you were mentioning that you had movie files that WORKED before adding Han's tool? If so you can just revert it back by launching the tool again, & choose "Default Setting" & "apply", that should fix it. (but I still doublt that's causing the problem.
Oh, by the way, I can feel your frustration, I've been there myself before too. Just that now everything is in the clear. :D
As many other posters has already mentioned, "Life's short, play hard", "no pain no gain". :D

I'd be interested. Is it like a demo only thing? ;)
Actually only the UX would handle 30fps at the current moment, but 30fps files won't play on other units. :(

Eddy:
You won't believe this, but the audio issue is now solved(by luck rather than knowledge, and the problem with luck is that it can't be duplicated because you don't know for sure what you did to "fix" the problem).
I went back to previous posts and saw that the MMPRONX file needed to be copied to the MS first and then moved to RAM on NX. Since I didn't do it this way, I tought I should try again and deleted the MMPRONX file from RAM and rehotsynced it to the MS.
Once done, I went into MS to find the MMPRONX file to move it to RAM. I could not find it anywhere. Still can't. But, now the Audio Player, Movie Player, Voice Recorder all work from CF. (FOR NOW).
Incidently, on your idea of using the DEFAULT button on IC, I tried that already and it did NOT work, which is why I included that portion in the post. So, IC is not working for me at all at the moment.
BTW, do you know what the default settings are on version 1? Maybe I could use the same settings on TMPGen and get it to work?
Thoughts?
Jay
Sounds like great news that everything are working for you right now, sounds like you're quite happy at the moment. I'd right away make a backup with MSBackup & store it on the MS first. So if you ever run into trouble, you can always go back to this setting that is functioning properly as should! congradulations! :D
So you've upgrade to ImageConverter 1.1?
Prefs: ImageConverter
OEM Settings:
High Quality:
Video data rate = 384 kbps
Frame rate = 14.5 fps
Audio data rate = 128 kbps
Standard Quality :
Video data rate = 216 kbps
Frame rate = 14.5 fps
Audio data rate = 64kbps
Low Quality :
Video data rate = 96 kbps
Frame rate = 14.5 fps
Audio data rate = 32 kbps
On TMPGen, you don't have to match the settings to ImageConverter, it should help you generate a plain simple mpeg-1 format movie file, then it'll run through ImageConverter perfectly, least from my experience.
Oh, but here's a thread that you might want to refer to about settings on TMPGen if you want to just watch mpeg-1 movie files off MoviePlayer without converting through ImageConverter
Movieplayer Issues Fixed!!!

MPEG-1 320x240
575kbps @ 15fps and the output file is identical in quality. ;)

Eddy, thanks for the data.
No, I haven't upgraded to IC 1.1.
Do YOU have a link to the new upgrade for it?
Would love to have it.
Thanks, Jay

heres the IC from the UX cd......

Well, there you have it! :D
Thanks for the link keeperkeith :)
Just remember the SuperHighQuality mode isn't applicable for the NX to playback. Cheers

SuperHighQuality won't play back on the NX?
SuperHighQuality won't play back on the NX?
Not that I know of... :(
Unless there's a new modified UX patch that combines enables the NX/NZ to playback at SuperHighQuality mode.
There is one benefit though, you can creat both HighQuality & Standard videos at up to 2 hours in length, meaning you no longer have to chop up a movie into 2 sections. Just one whole big MQV file will do. :D

Anyone know of a compatiblity issue between the "hans" image converter pref program and the IC 1.1? I heard that if you adjust the settings at all through the preferences that you'll get a copy error in IC...
Just wondering...

use the "hans" module with version 1.0 and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Yep I too got very frustrated trying to put movies onto my Clie! I HATED IRC!! I did not find it intuitive at all, and seemed waaaaay too confusing to use. Also I am sick of seeing posts with "matrix reloaded" trailers!!! How many matrix reloaded trailers can there be??? Seems every other movie that goes up is the matrix reloaded!!!
My solution: I download movies from: http://www.pocketmovies.net/cat_8_0.html
-They have a great selection of videos and they all have worked great for me! I just run them through Image Converter and export right onto my Clie, no problem.
Also I am thinking of investing in the Sony Recorder... this will make it very easy to record TV programs and movies onto MS then play on my Clie!
oh, almost forgot.. I also load a lot of Flash cartoons onto my Clie. Go to this site if you wish:
http://twz.cnh-online.net/uziflash.shtml
-they have a nice selection of Flash cartoons, and some helpful info on how to load most flash movies from a site onto your clie!

I haven't had a problem using the Japanese language 1.1 with Hans converter. Are you saying I'll have problems with the English version?
