View Full Version : SL-10: Need CD or Drivers/Desktop
Hobbit

Friend of mine had a break-in, his computer, Playstation, and all his CDs were stolen.
Can anyone either post or PM me the files needed to setup Syncing for his PC OR.....
I have my CDs for my NX80 and my N710c, what can I use from either of these to get him Syncing again?
Any advice much appreciated,
TIA
Probably any of Sony's install CD's for Palm OS 4.x will work. If that is what you have try that for him. If your devices are OS 5.x you might still try it. If it doesn't work, just uninstall it.
Or better yet, he could just upgrade! The prices on some of these PDA's are very low.
Blessings,
Steve

The Sl -10 will sync to the 4.1 desktop with no problem.

Hi,
I've already available the CD ISO image of my SL10, if you wish the ISO image (about 215MB) mail me privately.

There's nothing special about the Sony Desktop files. If he's just doing a straight hotsync, just grab the Palm Desktop files from Palm's website.

Didn't work for me! like, it'd say USB was avaliable when I tried to connect, but wouldn't sync. In "My Computer" It'd show up as the Clie, but the contents were empty, trying to install software was a no go as it wasn't synced.
btw, i'm running SL-20

Joe,
What are you trying to do? Having hotsync trouble, or desktop install trouble? I'm trying to understand your problem...

Well the only thing I wanna do is install some software onto my SL-20, its running Palm 4.1.
I don't know what software I need, but I thought I needed the Palm Desktop (for clie's) do I need anything else?
I know from using my ipaq 1935, that as soon as I was running my active sync I could see the ipaq in the "my computer" and could exchange files, and when I wanted to install a program I'd just run the installation program off my PC, and it'd go into the PDA.
I've uninstalled ALL active sync software, and all palm desktops trying to get this clie to allow installs.
Bobenis sent me the Sony Desktop (www.joesiv.com/files/CLIEPD401.EXE) and that allowed the downloadable Sony (Patch PDT401-PATCH) to work. but... now what? I still can't see it in "my computer" and it hasn't synced..
sorry I'm a noob, but I'm trying, what do I need?

Ah... thanks for the explanation. It helps a LOT. Things are different (and better) in the Palm OS world. (I'm slightly biased!)
Palm desktop is all you need for now. I'm assuming you already installed it. You should now have an icon in your tray (bottom right of your screen) which looks like a red and blue arrow swirled together. Float over it, and it should say something about when your last hotsync was. If you don't have the icon, you've got to re-install the desktop program.
Once you can see the hotsync icon in your tray - In order to install software on your unit, all you have to do is select the file (.pdb for databases, or .prc for program files) in My Computer, and double-click it. That should launch a dialog box which says it will be installed on your next hotsync. I think the step you're missing is the hotsync step. If you don't have a cradle or cable with a hotsync button, you have to find the Hotsync program on you SJ and tap on it to run it. Follow the prompts - you should see a pop-up on your PC which indicates that hotsync is running.
There *is* a way to see your palm and load files on it from My Computer, but that only works with a memory stick. Since you're new, I won't confuse you with the details at this point.
Get hotsync working for now, since you'll need to use it to back up the data on your SJ. Then, when you're ready, ask about the MS Import program...

Hey thanks PalmGeek for your quick and detailed explanation! With the help of bobenis (nice guy) I got it all working.
This is what I was missing:
The USB driver PalmUSBD.sys and PalmDevC.dll, for some reason when I installed the desktop it didn't install those.
Then the next thing (most important step IMHO) was what you describe.. clicking the hotsync button (I have cables) in the Palm OS. I mean I went in there before, but didn't realize that I needed to click the big graphics ;) I thought it was just a setup utility. After finatlly getting adventurous and clicking it, it tried to sync up and told me I was missing those files mentioned above.
After browsing my computer, and realizing I had them in the proper installed folders, but it just wasn't "using" them for some reason, however, I got it all working now!
It works like a charm now!
so I guess 2 things, didn't have usb drivers installed and didn't "activate" the syncing process was what I was missing
With the Ipaq as soon as I plugged in the usb cable it'd automatically run the syncing process so I wasn't used to the way the clie worked.
oh well, all is good now, sorry for hijacking this thread!
Thanks PalmGeek, and Bobenis for all your help, this palm seems reallly cool, and I'm glad I finally got it working!
cheers!

PS, ClieSource is a great place for all clie users, i'm Definatlly glad it's here!

I'm glad you got it all working!
Since I hook up my cable just to charge my SJ most of the time, I think an auto-sync would get real annoying, real fast.
When you get a MS, and you're ready to start using MS Import... just ask. If I don't help you, I know somebody around here will.

awsome, thanks palmgeek.
and yeah, I guess the auto-syncing could get to be a pain if your'e always taking/removing it during a given day.
cant wait to get one of those Memory Stix!
