Hello all! I'm about to format my computer and I just wanted to know which Sony folders I should backup so I can keep all the database/application information for my NX70. Thanks!

I don't have an NX series Clie, but when I reformatted my computer, all I did was kept all the data on the handheld and once I was in my new operating system installation, I performed a HotSync with everything set to "Handheld overwrites desktop." If you wanted to back up the folder, I'd assume that you'd back up your user folder. I believe that it's the one named like so, LastnameFirstInitial, so for example, DoeJ for John Doe. This thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16970&highlight=reformat) contains my formatting experience. I have an SJ20. So it may or may not be different.

You may wish to check the contents of your user folder just to make sure that everything is in there that you want to keep.

I hope I am still on time to catch you...

My Computer > C drive, > Program Files > Sony Handheld > (Your User last Name)
Make a copy of this folder, it contains your info. Even making a back up of your info in your handheld is not enough (sometimes). I had a Sony VIAO and I formatted the computer about 5 times. But Thank God I moved to Mac. I get no reformatting problems anymore.

Cheers, and hope everything works out good. Drop me a message if you need any help!

I dont think thats enough if you have applications like QuickOffice which are putting a new menu item, in the original MSOffice program (ie MSWord, MSExcel) menu.

Backup the entire "Sony Handheld" folder. When you start reinstalling your PDA software, copy this folder and its contents back under "Program Files" directory. This will ensure user settings are retained. Then, install the Sony Clie desktop (Main installation CD that came with your PDA), then install PDA apps that have a desktop counterpart/conduit, i.e. Bonsai, DocsToGo, SpashID/Photo. You should delete from the install tool the PDA apps before syncing as you already have them installed. It doesn't hurt if you don't do this, except for apps that you are running in either flash or the MS, which will be duplicated in regular RAM. Good luck!
