I am wondering if there is any Wi-Fi GPS systems out there.
I am looking for a wireless GPS system for my NX70V/U PDA. I was looking at geting a Bluetooth GPS and the European Sony Bluetooth Memory Stick, because of the NX70V not maving built in Bluetooth hardware.

But the problem with the Bluetooth Memory Stick is that it doesnt have any built in memory and I cannot use my MS slot to store the GPS maps.

I am not sure how much memory it takes for the GPS maps and My Clie only has 16 MBs of RAM.

Thats why I am asking about a GPS system that transmits via (wireless lan) so I can use the MS slot for storing maps and the Hot Sync cable for connecting to a car diagnostic DataLooger connection.

You can either get the Sony GPS module.

Or do what you had planned, and save the maps on your CF.
Since you have nx70, you will need CF util, or eurowareto be able to use the CF slot for memory.

well the problem with the Sony GPS cradle is that it takes uses the bottom connection that I need to my datalogger. And also I heard that it does not work for the NX70V.

What My question was...is there any GPS systems that transmit to the (Optional) Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) Card?

Thank You

I have never heard of a WiFi GPS and I doubt there will ever be one. WiFi is not meant to replace simple wires. It's meant for replacing network cables.

So since there is no "nice" answer to your question we start guessing a other solutions :D

On the other hand you could build one yourself. Buy an extra Clie. Hook it up to the GPS and let it send the data over WiFi (can you even connect two Clie's over WiFi though?)

Or get an UX50 or TG50 (or *shudder* a Palm Tungsten-Tx).

It would be cool if we could put a GPS in the CF slot though. But I doubt Sony will ever come out with one.

Also, I wouldn't put much hope on the Memory Stick GPS. I hear it's incompatible with most software an dit doesn't work very well either (lot's of complaints apparently). I don;t have one myself, but I gave up after reading that they weren't very usable.

I am holding out hope for this as well...

I would love to use gps in my car wirelessly through wifi and yet still retain use of my memory stick slot for maps and other stuff...I would rather not use the bluetooth memory stick just to connect to wireless bluetooth gps recievers as it will not only take up the slot and force me to buy CF cards, but also it limits you to not having the great internet and computer connectivity of wifi (which bluetooth really doesn't have) and I already have a pega-wl110 which I paid a good deal for!

somewhere a while back on some other forum, some guy asked for the same thing...and one guy said he had been using a navman gps receiver which worked when he put a wifi cf card in it...not sure exactly how it worked as it was a while back...
