I've just bought the Hitachi 1Gb Microdrive and comments elsewhere are making slightly nervous about using it in my NX70.

Can anyone who uses a microdrive IBM/Hitachi comment on whether they are happy with it and the effect on battery life?

The spec on the rear says:
Power Reqs:
Spin up 260mA
Read/Write 250mA
Low power idle 65mA
Stand by 20mA

First, can the NX70 deliver the required power?

Second, if the read write figure is the same and the NX can read why shouldn't it be able to write?

The 'drive is staying shrink-wrapped until someone can confirm it's likely to function OK as I don't want to end up with a tiny 1Gb microdrive paperweight. :D

Thanks

right now, i am using the free hacks for my CF driver and i am using an NZ90 with an IBM MicroDrive 1GB CF Card. right now i am satisfied with my MicroDrive card although when i play movies, it almost always freezes up and doesn't play or it simply just plays then stops (loading) then plays again. i figured out its mainly a driver problem and nothing with the card. until a better driver comes out, i'm gonna have to stick with what i've got.

now, regarding the power, well it doesn't really take up too much battery life away, barely noticeable.

also for your info, the MicroDrive makes some whirring noise when either reading/writing and also makes the occasional jitter sounds too, you won't really hear them unless your in a quiet room.

all in all, i can't blame the card for the problems i'm getting in MoviePlayer but for everything else, it works fine (including MP3s). i guess i'm just gonna have to wait for a better driver and/or better MoviePlayer app.

Thanks both. Haven't tried movies from the MD (yes, couldn't resist using it like any gadgeteer... :) ) but on MP3 playback there's a few pauses on the first track then it plays the rest without problems.

Having said that, I paused playback and when I tried to resume I got the error

"a s/w library req for this app is missing or this device does not support MS media"

so I've asked in the CF forum for advice. Don't suppose either of you have experienced this?
