I keep getting invalid network settings box when I enter an address. It tells me I'm connected but can't surf. Can't figure out & don't know if I should be playing w/ proxies, ports, addresses, etc.
A step by step would be extremely helpful, I did a search but couldn't find specifics ...
Thanks in advance

are you using wifi ? if yes, whose wifi spot is that ? do the wifi has firewall, proxy etc etc. If yes, you need your network administrator to figure it out for you. Other than that, the setting is quiet straight forward.

Try to figure out how you want to connect to the web under "Preference" My works good with the wireless router at home and at work.

I'm using my home computer & router, I've gone to preferences, wireless lan, ssid under auto connect, status strength 100%, no WEP (indicates not used). Not sure where else I need to go. What info exactly would I get from network admin?
are the addresses(ip, mac) supposed to match up w/ those on my computer?
I'm getting confused...
Thanks again!

Help! I got the same problem and could use some advice.
I'm forced to use static cuz dhcp can't seem to get the IP address from the AP. With static IP, I can connect but that's it. It comes back with an "Invalid Network Setting" and I've tried every combination in Preference - SSID setup.
I doubt d/l'ing webpro will make a difference I get the connection going.

when you are in Net work preference, you have a wireless lan service. tap the detail box. In the SSID, tap the scan box. And the detected network and tap connect. I hope this can be helpful.

Is your router a 802.11 B or 802.11G router, it will not work with a 802.11A router

I have the G router- where on my device would I find & be able to change the router connection? Also, when I scan, the ssid # that comes up is- 000740a7e130. Is that correct?
Thanks all!

When I ran into this I had several things wrong.
1. I didn't have the router's IP address in the settings. If this is a home network, it's usually 192.168.1.1, but you'll have to check the router to verify it.
2. I had an incorrect IP address coded to my UX. If your router's IP is in the 192.168.1.* range, then the IP address you give your router must match the router's IP (example: the router has an IP address of 192.168.1.1, then your UX's IP must be 192.168.1.101, however the 101 can be anything from 101 to 254. I have 2 PCs and my UX and assigned my UX 192.168.1.103).
That's just my experience, but I hope it helps.

Finally got off my lazy butt to register, anyway here's the detail of the setup.
I'm running a SMC 802.11b wiressless at home. It works with my laptop so I 'think' the setting is somewhat workable.
Config on the router:
DHCP
WEP (64 bit) enabled with random word configured
Using/without MAC filitering
SSID and channel (6) configured
Config on UX50:
static
router ip configured using ip of router
dns servers using router ip (?)
tried disabling/enable WEP (on both devices)
Strangely enough ux50 won't pick up dhcp from the router and keeps "trying to get address". I went w/ static IP and it was able to connect but the "invalid network setting" error would show up during browsing. Tried a various configuration parameters and stripping down to the minimal on the router end but no go. note, I have a matching cofiguration on both side when I do make a change.
I think it has something to do with dns but I can't how else to configure it. There just aren't too many ways you can configure the ux50.
Anyone else having problem w/ the ux50 along an smc router?

download the mobile connection wizard from sony's website, install it and it will walk you through the setup screens necessary to configure a connection. If it does not work first time, do a hard reset on your clie. Ensure your computer and clie have exactly same time on clock. Then do a hot synch. then try your connection again. It should connect now.

How can doing a hot sync help with the wifi connection?

I have no problem using a Linksys router. It's getting the DHCP address. I've also got WEP on router at home and no WEP at work and both are working fine. The only problem I have with the WiFi is I can't HotSync via WiFi, but that's going on in another Thread. :)

I just recently ran into this problem when I loaded the Mobile Connection Manager. It seems, that the software created some kind of Tmobile connection?? I will go back in to adjust my IP settings per the previous posting and it should fix it.
