My wife has a Palm Vx. I want to buy her a new PDA for about $250 to get color, and better RAM size & speed. She is a Big 4 User - Datebook, Address, ToDo and Memos, but would like to run a few odds and ends. I am kind of loyal to Palm, rather than "that other OS", and appreciate the number of Palm apps there are.

I have thought about a SJ30, but ... my question is: Is this the time to spend $250 or should I wait for more Sony releases in that price range?

Buy it. Looks good and if it fits her needs why not. Here it is for $219

i second that.
the sj30 is an excellent device that, from what you describe, will do everything your wife needs and more. 219 is a great price, too.

Thank you so much for the answers. I will check back, but I think I may buy one tomorrow for the birthday party.

I worried that I would be flooded with answers detailing how stupid I am not to have bought xxxxxxxxxxx from ebay for only $49.50.

Thanks for your help.

Well, if you can find it for $49.50 on ebay, go for it. That's a pretty good price.

If she mostly just uses the four built-in apps, you should seriously consider the SJ20. Its price has just dropped to $150. I think the SJ20 has the best monochrome screen to ever be on a handheld. I'd suggest anyone looking for a handheld with a long battery life and a hi-res screen seriously consider the SJ20.

I bought the SJ30 for $219.

My wife is very happy. I like it really a lot myself. I use a NR70V, and am delighted that the SJ30 is so much smaller, lighter, and easy to hang on to. Its square shape fits my hand really well. Its shorter as it doesn't have that hinge on top of it!

The color seems identical to me, and oddly - it runs faster than my NR70V, but may be a factor of the 14 million two hundred thousand and 37 programs I have on the NR70V, and I'm talking "out-of-the-box" on the SJ30. No extra software loaded yet - 1/2 meg full - 14 1/2 meg empty, so I think it "finds" programs fast (like it has a very small equivalent to File Allocation Table).

It's slick for $219.

Of course next week Sony will have a faster, cheaper, blah, blah. You know Sony!

I beamed her data from the Palm Vx. No problem.
