I know that the majority of the world is RIGHT handed, but...

I wish someone would consider the south-paw crowd when designing palms of any make/model.  I would prefer the stylus holder (NX-60) be on the left and the jog be on the right.

Just my two-cents.

JPeckster:
There was a thread regarding this back on ClieSource v.1. There seemed to be a lot of differing opinions in the lefty community about the controls.

My personal opinion is that the layout is IDEAL for lefties.

I'm a diehard lefty and am frustrated on a weekly basis about the lack of support for lefties in the world today! But my PDA has never been a source of frustration.

Maybe I'll do a poll.....

I'm left-handed and I really don't mind where the jogdial is. I like it better actually, but thats probably because I have small hands. It's much easier to move my index figure to and from the Back button and Jogdial since it is longer. It's not as easy to move my thumb back and forth.

Lefty here also and am happy with the jogdial/back button location. But having the stylus holder on the left side would have been cool.

Lefty here as well...

As left handed persons in a right handed world, i've become well adjusted to the most of the things originally intended for a right handed person. With that said, my Clie works fine for me, and I find that programs optimized for left handed people seem awkward to me. Don't most lefties exhibit ambidextrous tendencies? I do...

My 2 cents...

Cheers to all me fellow lefties!  To clarify, my post wasn't a complaint, rather an observation.  Believe me, I also have learned to adapt to the right-handed majority and do display some abidexterous qualities (I chanllege right handed people to turn a can opener the other direction).

I guess my biggest obstacle is the stylus holder, but I can manage to manipulate the jog/back buttons but do notice how some applications favor the right handed users.

I also find the stylus location inconvenient, requiring an awkward turn of the wrist to remove it if I'm already holding the NX-70V in my right hand (as I would if I just took it out of my pocket).

The other inconvenience I discovered is that the screen rotates in only one direction. This means that (in my right hand) I have to twist my wrist around 180 degrees tou turn the screen around. It would be more natural for a lefty to want to turn the screen counter-clockwise to get it into tablet mode.

Southpaws unite! fellow left sider here as well. i too have no problem with adapting to most right-specific objects. as one of you had touched upon, i've had my whole life to practice conforming to right handed situations. my question to you all kinda veers left of the topic of ths post (pun intended). i am wondering if any or all of you leftys are artistically inclined? i've read that we as lefties tend to excell at some art form or another over our right handed counterparts. is this true for you? i myself play the trumpet, write music and poetry, draw, and paint. i've received scholarships for both concert band and graphic arts. although i'm sure this did not occur due solely to the fact that i am left handed, but i like to think it has something to do with it. well thats aout it for now. i guess i'll do a bit of research on the web.

take care,

I just bought my NX60 this week. I haven't had much issue with the location of the jog dial. In fact, I think it works better for lefties when you hold the PDA with your right hand, use the stylus in your left hand, and use your middle or index finger of your right hand to utilize the jog dial.
My problem is with the location of the scroll bars on the screen. On my old Palm, I used Lefthack from www.quartus.net which is a hack that switches the scroll bars from the right side to the left side of the screen. Let me tell you, if you're a lefty, you quickly get used to this feature. Now that I'm using OS5 without hacks, I'm finding that I'm always looking to the left side of the screen for the scroll bar.
Has anybody seen a program like this for OS5? Any chance that hacks will be available in OS5?

Seems to me if you initially hold the Clie upside down with your right hand, sliding the stylus up and out would be easy.

I am right-handed and artistically challenged, but mechanically inclined:)!

My ex of 23 years was left-handed, so I had to stay on her right side:).

I'm left-handed and agree with those that said stylus is a pain and jog dial is not a problem.

Regarding ambidextrous tendencies -- I read a book that said there are two types of people right-handed (I forget % but high like 90%) and non-right-handed (the rest). The non-right-handed fall along a continuum of how many things they do right versus left-handed. Those that do the most left-handed is a low %.

There is a test of 10 or 11 things to categorize people -- like thread a needle, comb hair, write, bat a ball, throw a ball, etc. I personally only do on thing right-handed as a preference - throw a ball, but I do a lot of things ambidextrously out of necessity!

Regarding art -- I am mechanically inclined, but not creative. I do play the guitar, do lots of crafts, etc., but just not artistic. I work for a high-tech company, though, and a lot of our engineers are mechncally-inclined and musical. After all - music has a mathematical base.....

I'm certainly not artistly inclined, but I guess I'm not fully left handed. I write and eat left handed. But for sports I use play right handed. I also use a mouse righthanded (you almost have to as many computers have right handed only mice).

While I cannot say that I accel in any one area of arts in particular, I did sing semi pro (commericals, jingles, voice-overs, etc, etc,) for a number of years but also had more than a simple interest in performaning arts, design (color theory, graphic and commerical artistry).

Yes, I also have heard that 'lefties' are more artistically inclined.  This, if my memory servers me, is do to the whole left brain/right brain theory.  If your left handed (majority) then you are using your 'right brain' more than the left.  It has been said that the right brain controlls things like creativity, artisitc abilities, abstract thought processes.  Right handed folks use more of the left brain which is more adapted to core concrete ideas; anilitical, mechanical processes.

With that said, one could argue that...

Only left handed people are in the right mind.
