I have a T665c and decided to give the whole Jacksprat / Jackflash thing a go. I installed Jacksprat and did a Hotsync backup of ROM. To test it out I then thought I'd remove a relatively unimportant file according to most of the forums...the Welcome app.
BIG mistake!! My device now will not soft reset without entering a fatal error loop. No problem I thought, I'll restore the ROM. I followed the instructions to the letter: Hard reset, Hotsync the ROM file and then tap on Flashwrite. I hit the 'Restore Palm OS' button only to be met with...'Fatal Error'.
It seems I cannot re-install my ROM as I should be able to. I've e-mailed Brayder but am now in a state of absolute panic. My Clie is a refurbished one still within the 90 day warranty. Any suggestions? Does anybody have a ROM image I can use please? Will Sony re-flash my ROM for me? I'm going to be sooooo upset if I've killed my Clie.

ahhh you've got it bad
I don't know how you tried to backup your rom. I think that hotsyncing only backs up ram.
What I do know without doubt is that Sony will not reflash the rom. tampering with the romimmediately voids all warranties.
look at it as an opportunity to get a new clie!

But I backed up the ROM via a Hotsync as per Jacksprat instructions. It then allows you to restore ROM via Hotsync. It installs a program called Flashwrite which when you use it is supposed to restore ROM and hard reset so device is back to factory standard.
I also thought I'd read in a post somewhere that Sony would re-flash ROM without too much problem?
Tanker Bob, your expertise is required!!

Your only hope is Brayder if you can't restore it. They used to be pretty good.
I honestly don't know if Tanker Bob can help, but if anyone can it would be him. I have no familiarity with JackSprat.

Brayder have e-mailed me back saying they can't find me under the details I am using. I think I used a different e-mail address when I purchased but have since moved to the USA and cannot remember my UK e-mail address. So if they can't find me, then they won't offer me any support right?
Has anybody got a t665c ROM image? Someone out there must be able to help me? This is turning into my worst nightmare!!

I had the same problem with my N760C. I wrote to Brayder and they send me a Palm debugger program with the N760C ROM image. The debugger uses a serial cable to reflash the clie. It work fine.

You cant remember your e-mail? are you sure you havnt installed a warez version, this is what braydar think, and they will offer you no help unless they are sure you have legitimately bought the software.

Thanks for your help, it was a long time ago wasn't it! Thankfully I resolved the problem after a couple of hard resets. I'm not sure what the problem was but it went away and never came back so I'm happy! Sorry I never followed the post up.
All is well in the land of my Clie.............

I didn''t know there is any software/files damages that can't be restored with a hard reset. Is there any?

The only files that stay (or not come back) with a hard reset are the file in the ROM.
If you start fooling with your ROM and get some error, you are fu*kd up and you should pray for the god Brayder to make it work.
So, if you dont know what you'r doing, dont play with the ROM.
