View Full Version : Cleaning the PDA screen?

I think I made a terrible mistake. I took off the screen protector to replace it, and thought I would clean the screen beofre putting on the new one. So I sprayed a little bit of the lens cleaner for my glasses on the screen to remove the sticky residue from the screen protector.

But when I tried wiping it off, I realized that the spots remained where the spray landed! D'oh!

What do I do? How do you usually clean your PDA screen?

A) What kind of screen protector left residue? The rest of us will be sure not to buy it.
B) I usually just puff hot air onto the screen and clean it with a lens cloth. If I were seriously desperate I might try wetting down the cleaning cloth a bit. Possibly with a tiny bit of mild soap (nothing that has lotion in it or anything like that) Many lens cleaners also leave residue which is why I usually stick to blowing hot air (as I have plenty of it anyhow ;) ). You might try a camera lens liquid by applying a bit to the cloth and then wiping the screen.
Getting the bathroom steamed up and wiping is a good way to clean. It works better to apply those pesky screen protectors, too.
C) I use the sony branded protectors but I hear brando's are good, too. Anyone used the G2's? They are held in by tension and don't stick to the screen.

A) I used the iConcepts screen protectors from Amazon. I got a 10-pack for $10, not bad I thought. They are actually not made for the T6xx series, but I bought it anyway. It was a few centimeters shorter in width than my screen but no big deal. But it left residue!

B) I think the hot-steam bathroom idea is a good one, but it appears that the marks left arent going away.

C) Before making the purchase, I thought that the discussion about screen protectors was too detailed for me, so I didnt read it. Boy was I wrong! I will most likely buy the Sony ones next time, or maybe the Brando if it gets good reviews in the boards.

Where can I buy them from? Links?

Thanks for the input

You can order the Brando ones right here through Global Souce. From any Clie Forum page select 'Screen Protectors' under 'Buy Items' on left hand side of your screen.

I ordered Companion Link screen protectors for my T665C and had no problems with them. I now have an NX70V and just ordered the Innopocket screen protector. I haven't received it yet but I've read positive comments about them. My other ones weren't washable like this one though. I curious to see if I'll be able to wash/dry it with getting no debris on it!

Good Luck!

I initially made the same mistake and thought nothing could remove the stain. However this little cleaning cloth from scotchbrite/ 3m called the high performance cleaning cloth worked perfectly. It has little bumps all over and so while its still soft it can lift up things on the screen w/out damaging it.

What does that mean? What's the point of washing them, you mean for re-use? How then do you stick them back on?

Thanks for the info, but could you tell me where I could buy it from?

Also, I just want to make sure we have the same problem. Right now on my screen there are spots where it appears maybe some coating was removed in the same size and formation as where I sprayed the cleaner. Is that what your problem was?

Thanks.

yeah the exact same problem. I actaully got them form my dad at a trade show for framing. however the rep told him they would be available at retail stores of varying types in 6 months and this was 1 yr ago. They are yellow and machine washable. Actually looking at the back of the label it says 1(877) 3mc-loth so maybe you can get them by calling.

Do you know how much they go for? I found one British site that sells them by doing a Google search. But nothing else came up. Thanks

I'm sure they couldn't be too much. After all it is basically just a cloth. $10 for 1 maybe. Just call the # I gave and ask.

someone in a different thread said they use this stuff for the screen and it works great. I am going to order some and give it a shot.
