Although I take very good care of my electronics, the jog dial on my SJ20 broke off.  Upon closer inpection I noticed that the only think holding the grey dial to the microswitch assembly are 2 plastice pins measuring approx 3 mm.  What do I do now?  Can I trade it in for the SJ33?  I'm on the phone with sony right now...

They don't do trade-ins.  I going to see if they can just send me the part.

Nope!  In fact they even went so far as to claim that it is not a "field replaceable part."  I don't think so.

Anybody have any ideas?

thanks

Can you describe in greater detail? I have a broken SJ20, I may be able to take mine apart and give you the pieces-

If you take the case off, you can see there are two screws and a ribbon cable holding the jog dial assembly.  Where the grey dial meets the microswitch assembly is where it broke off... two little plastic pins hold the two together.  How did your SJ20 break?  How much do you want for the jog dial?  How much for the whole thing.  I love taking stuff apart.  This would give me a great opportunity to completely disassemble my own without voiding the warrenty.

How about $15 for the whole thing (including shipping)? I would like to keep the flip cover and battery though, since I just bought a SJ30 to replace it. I'm assuming they use the same battery, I can keep it as a backup-

The screen is crushed, but the unit still powers on (from the part of the screen that isn't crushed), and the backlight turns on. So all the internals should be fine. The jog wheel is definitely fine, so you should be able to fix yours.

Where do you live?
