What do you use your Clie for? Mostly work, or mostly play?
I recently moved from a T615C to the NX60. I got it back to the office, and discovered what's printed under the "Clie" logo on the cover: "Personal Entertainment Organizer."
"Personal Entertainment Organizer?" I enjoy Clie's sounds and graphics, but I bought it for work: information organization.
So, if Clie is marketing towards an entertainment-oriented customer, how many of us use it mostly for work?
Thanks for your feedback!

Definitely a TOY... a very FUN toy. Never IMAGINED a PDA could be THIS much fun!!!
Definitely a tool....I'd be lost without it.

Tool.
I use my NR70/V and Docs To Go to carry laws, memos, and other documents to meetings. Plus it is a great reference tool for work.
Toy:
Astraware games, Palm Reader Pro for my ebooks, and funSMS to send my many lengthy SMS messages. And, the ever-loving crappy-quality, Clie Camera. I've taken some great impromptu shots with that thing (as well as some very usefull blackmail photos).

An amazing tool. I use it 90%+ for work. I tend to only play games on it when I'm on a plane.
Tool? You mean it's not a high tech Gameboy?
I voted half and half, but i'd say 1/3 personal stuff, 1/3 work stuff, 1/3 toy.
First and foremost a tool. The old Palms I had before I got my NR70V were most definitely tools. However, the Clie did add a lot of fun to the product, and so, yes, it is now also partially a toy. (With thanks to all those who developed Bejeweled!)

Definately a tool! Played some games on previous Prism. Had to have it replaced because of digitizer problems that I feel were attributable to the games. I don't care to use screen protectors and therefore prefer not to "do" games to minimize wear and tear on the screen/graffiti area/hardware buttons.

'OR'?
Why can't it be both? Is there something wrong with having fun while you keep yourself organized, or in being able to do something useful with your 'toy'?
I really dislike the marketing ploy Sony uses with the 'entertainment' part of the Clie line, but then again, the Clie's big claim to fame over most other PDAs is that it is more built for entertainment then they are (movies, sound, cameras, remotes, etc.), but this is still built on the solid businesslike Palm OS foundation.
Having said all that, my Clie is primarily a tool, because if it was a toy my wife would KILL me for all I have spent on it! (Not that she is thrilled with that anyway!)

I voted for half and half, though I'm not sure that toy applies. I don't play many games on it, but I do a lot of ebook reading and use the multimedia functions to tape my kids, and I didn't think that fell under Tool.

I voted half and half, but if it wasn't for the tool part, i wouldn't own it.

Work/Personal - appointment bk/to do/ remindersl
Toy - few games
Toy/personal - dictionary entertains me just looking at words when nothing doing at the mall waiting for the family to finish shopping
Toy/personal - World time, weather etc
Work/personal - advance calculator

Half and Half! I think that it has all the capability of a powerful tool! But when traveling the MP3 Player / e-book / games are essential (not to mention a whole days worth of battery life)!
Balance of tool & toy makes the Clie the best of both!

I voted 1/2 and 1/2.. though it's a bit in the grey area on the entertainment side and not considering it entertainment.
I'm really into reading (ebooks) and its what I do when I sit upon the porcelain throne ( I know, TMI ). Organizing and writing notes about everything all day long like a constant diary on my Datebook to me is entertaining and I love it. But its not a game.
I tried some games.. but being only an SJ-20 I don't have a lot of options of any games that are worth my time. Though I DO find Scrabble and Chess the most compelling and relaxing.
Now that I have my first Memory Stick I have a lot of family photos on it and I find myself bringing up AcidImage frequently to look at them when bored at work, is that entertainment?
I'd say I do some entertainment on it, but its not what most people would consider entertainment I don't think.
I didn't answer the survey because the answers aren't complete. There's no choice for personal stuff that's not related to entertainment. I use mine a little for entertainment, but mostly for keeping track of my life. Some of that's for work and some is personal.
Would have a tough time living without my PDA, too...

Mostly use it at work in the ICU (how did I ever get by without it?), reading ebooks, and keeping my life organized. So I vote both.

Mostly tool because I use it instead of remembering stuff:) I was using it to read book before but now I play a few games on it too.
i ve got a T665c,
if it were for tool, i would just have got the SJ10
so my answer would be.... TOY
(to be more precise... 70% toy, 30% tool)

I voted 1/2 and 1/2 but - I bought it for work: Datebook and lists (Bonsai) and Addresses & Phone and Password List (SplashID) bill paying reminder (My Bills), Hot Syncing that data for backup etc.
Since I own it, I occupy spare time with ebooks, Planetarium, meditation timer and I try odd stuff I see, and usually quit using that stuff in a few days but - I always use the "work" software everyday.
Also, I work in the computer field, so I need to know the details of supporting and using PDAs, and I may teach a short course on programming for Palm.
70% Tool 30% Toy

Mostly a toy.
I use my T665 for mp3's and games mostly. But I occasionally do some schoolwork on it like write essays.
I'd say the percentages are about 90% toy - 10% work

I'd say .5 and .5. I like having a personal organizer that lets me read books, play games (+gameboy), play mp3's, watch movies, and control my TV.
After I got my NR70 I can't imagine how I got along with an S300.

I use my NR70 mainly to keep myself organized, but the MP3 is great also for the train ride to work and back home. Only have 2 games (Scrabble and Casino) on it.

I need it as a personal organizer.
It also helps me to read/ review medical topics as needed.
It is a dosage calculator for me.
It helps me supervise the work of 45 other residents as well, and improve their academic experience.

Pretty much all tool now. In fact, if I do upgrade in the future, I'm not sure I will care much about an MP3 player or a camera. Nice to have, but not essential to me. I would be lost without my PDA.
