I really would like to hear about the new spec's and thoughts for the new TJ25 or TJ35. If you can tell me what the battery life is like, what the apps work or don't work, etc., then please tell us. Thanks in advance.

I just posted a review of the TJ25: http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/feature/sony_TJ25.htm

Battery life seems middle of the road so far (I'll update the review after a few more days of use) and similar to the Tunsgsten E.

I haven't had any problems running apps on it, including games, so far :)

I'm really looking forward to the TJ35, since the TJ25 seems a little lacking in comparison to the Tungsten E.

Great review and thanks for the insight. I hope the TJ35 is a bit brighter. If you get a chance, can you see why the TJ's don't fit in the cradles that work for the T665 or TG50 right now? Also, do you think that they will update the driver for the PEGA-KB11 compact keyboard, so the TJ's will work?

Again, thanks!

Thanks guys, and glad you liked the review :)

I'll have to hunt down an SJ or TG cradle, as my only cradle is for the NX. We use cables for the rest of our Clies.

I can ask Sony about the KB11. Since it's a Stowaway rebranded as a Sony, I tried the Fellowes-branded version of the Clie Stowaway and it worked perfectly!

I really hoped that it would work, since the TG50 works with it and the TJ35 would seem to me to be a TG without the keyboard or recorder.

Brayder will have to get their hands on it first. Usually they actually have to work with the hardware before they can add it to their compatability list. Just like they had to work a while on the NX73/80 even though the NX60/70 were already supported.

I am hoping for 2 things:

1. Related to Brayder... since the TJ35 has 8 Meg's of ROM, I am hoping that at least half of that ROM is not used and will be flashable.

2. Not related to Brayder... the TJ35 screen is equivalent to the T665 screen.

One question about the TJ series...does it have the regular Sony thin stylus, or that horrible telescoping one from the new NX and UX series?

The new tj's have a cool cradle, sold seperately. here are some pictures of it:

I have to tell you that I looked at the TJ25 today and I am VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! What is Sony thinking about with the terrible little speaker. This is horrible and I will not buy a TJ. Does anyone know if the speaker on the TJ35 is better than the TJ25? This will be the TJ's only hope. I cannot use a PDA whose speaker I cannot hear... what good would my alarms be?

Also, that stylus is terrible. I cannot use that little thing. What are they thinking? Again, Sony, I hope the TG replace that is suppose to compete with the TT3 will be better and hear soon!

it doesn't have polyphonic sounds or the Mp3 player like the TJ35 does. But it's great nevertheless! I just got one for my 13-year old nephew. I paid 199.99 at BestBuy and I have a 20 dollar rebate coming. Not bad. Plus. i am giving him my 256 MB Memory Stick Pro, so he will have plenty of storage area to to combat only 11MB available on the unit. Overall this is not a bad deal for the features! I am enjoying the T3 in the meantime. I will hold off buying an SD card though.

just a note, I was thinking of gtting him a T or T2 originally BUT

the slider doesn't really serve a purpose unless you have a Virtual VG like on my T3

the processor on T and T2 is only 144 compared to 200 on TJs

He has a 20 gig mp3 player (not the Ipod, the nearest competitor, I don't remember the name)

the TJ is very small (smaller than the original Sony T415 in fact which was the same thinness as Palm V I think). Well, the TJ is even thinner than Palm V and shorter albeit just slighter wider.

I think the T2 is 329.99 and the TJ is only 200 and 250 for the one with the Mp3 player and polyphonic sounds.

The sound is too critical for me to ignore. If I cannot hear my alarms, then this PDA serves no purpose. I really am very disappointed and hate the stylus. If you like hardly audible sound and a stylus half the size of my little finger, then it is "great."

well, there are other options on the market. I have switched to Palm but i might come back to Sony when I see a nice OS6 product next year. Hopefully like the T3 but solid (without the slider)

Many thanks for this review. I am thinking about buying a new PDA, and was doubting between TJ25 and Tungsten E. The last one seems to be the clear winner.

Picked a TJ25 up today from Circuit City. A nice replacement for my t615.

The biggest problem I have concerns the cover/shape of it. I should start off by saying I prefer skinny, tall pdas, like the t615, rather than shorter, wider pdas, like the m5xx series. The unit is already fairly wide. With the cover on, its even wider because of the way its attached, especially when you fold it around the back. Between the increased width of the unit itself, and the width of the cover, you've got to be looking at close to 1/2" wider than the t615. I have BIG hands, and I can barely wrap them around this thing.

Otherwise, nice display, NO wavy lines at the bottom. Colors look good. Some people might complain about the brightness of it though. Pumped up to max, I'm happy, but not thrilled. The current crop of palm screens is still the best in that regard.

The jog dial on the front is nice, works well there. But I wish they had found some way to intergrate the back button as well, it would make life a lot easier if I could get back to the applications screen by pressing a button rather than pulling out the stylus. The way palm makes it so you can just press in the center button for a few seconds and go back works very well, and I hope sony does something like that in the future. The rest of the buttons are fairly small/flat against the case, but even with my previously mentioned big hands, I haven't had a problem with them.

Finally, the general feel of the device is quite nice. It doesn't feel like a cheap entry level pda. Its got a very nice look to it, and it feels extremely solid. I think in the end thats what swayed me from buying the (better valued) tungsten E when I got to the store. That thing just felt like cheap plastic, despite the fact that palm keeps saying its metal. I still think the E is a better buy though (I'm just a stickler for build quality).

However, in my opinion.....this model should not exist, or it should be cheaper. The 35 should have been priced at $200 to go directly against the E with its almost identical specs, and the 25 should either have been $150, or not offered at all. Yes, the 35 has the standard sony connecter, and a faster processor.....neither of which matters to the people who are buying palms in this price range. About the only thing your average consumer might want is a keyboard, and palms got that covered without the UC with the IR keyboard. Anyway, thats my take. I know from talking to the guys at BB/Circuit city that the Tungsten E is already selling extremely well, so I wouldn't be surprised if the TJs drop price in line with it fairly quickly.

What do you think of the speaker on the back the way the alarms sound and play? This was the big killer me. Let me know what your thoughts are about the speaker!

Hello!
You can do it easily with Teallaunch (Qlaunch also, but I'm not sure)

I just played with it having to install some software for my nephew as he is not familiar with any of the palm sites or what applications are good to have and compared the screen to my NX's screen and the screen iss as bright if not a tad brighter. Hey, I bought an SJ for my friend for Christmas last year and the characteristics of that device were MUCH worse than this one for the same price. Compare 33 Mhz to 200 Mhz, Palm OS 5.2.1 instead of 4.1; better screen and an aluminium shell. Overall, this product feels very appropriate for the price it is offered and in a few months we will be seeing it for 150 or less which is a giveaway compared to what we used to pay for pdas of much inferior characteristics, I think my m505 was 450 plus tax

I should say that if you compare it with Palm TE the only advantage is more memory on TE (28 meg compared to 11) and a real speaker. The advantage that TJ has over TE is that it is much faster (200 compared to 126 Mhz on TE)

Yes, but even pda nerds like us will rarely notice the difference in speed, let alone the "common consumer" that this price range is aimed at. I stick by my comment that the 25 should have launched at $150 or not at all, and the 35 directly against the E at $200.

Good points and I agree

I have two things to say though

Who lowers prices faster/more often: Sony or Palm?

Also, that general consume will consider if they want to buy a memory stick or an SD card because prices on those can be another 1/3 to 1/2 of the price of these models
