I don't know if you've noticed this before, but the screen on my NX-70 turns off when I close the unit with the screen inside. The device stays on until the "Auto Shutdown" timer expires, but the screen and it's power-hungry backlight no longer drawing on the battery.

I saw some interesting things about the way the NX-70 does things on the Peter Pilot "Guts" thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=866&highlight=guts). Peter seemed to think the fact that the NX-70 could be turned on with the unit closed was a problem. It may yet prove to be a problem, but at least the screen is not part of that problem.

My former Clie NR70V also functioned this way.

If it's anything like my NR, it can't be turned on when closed. It can be on when closed, but not turned on, unless it's an alarm or another program that is supposed to turn it on like BB or something like that.

The NX can be turned on or off when closed. Pictures and sounds can be recorded as well as MP3 's played, unless of course the hold button is on. In any case with the clamshell closed, the backlight stays off.

It can definately be turned on with the power button when closed.  I try to remember to lock the Hold button as I've defaulted the Capture/Rec button to record for the voice recorder and taped quite length bits of nothing by accident.
