ok everyone....
i just got my new nx80v from BB the other day.....
its pretty sweet and the cam is surpisingly good.
The only thing i wish it had was bluetooth!!! I already had the wl100, 256 CF and a couple 128ms
So the upgrade to the nx80v isn't really that much of a change other than the cam.
I wonder what you all think of your UX50s? BB doesn't have them instock yet, but they hope sometime next week.
My main concern is the BT. I just got a BT SE T616 phone and have gotten SMS and internet workin well via IR. I'm trying to decide whether I should buy a BT MS or upgrade to the UX50 for about the same price.
What are the (dis)advantages of the UX50 compared to the NX80v?
Yeah I know the cam isn't as good....but it plays 30FPS!! :)
I kinda would like to try something smaller since I've had all of the clamshell clies ;)
I do use Wifi some.
Having the palm sound API seems like an advantage over other clies....
Give me your opinions!! hehe
Thanks

I specifically skipped the NX73 and NX80 due to the lack of built in bluetooth and lack of a usable (for me) keyboard. I use BT almost everyday to connect through my Ericsson T39mc (I'm having a T610 shipped to me as I type, however), through which I send emails and surf the web.
Because of this heavy usage, I purchased the BT MS from Brando a few months back and used it quite a bit in my NR. It was a great little device, but I found I didn't look forward to the MS juggling that was required to use it. I'm one of those users that keeps an MS in their CLIE at all times, and it was difficult to juggle the two cards when I needed one or the other.
I must say that I love my UX so far. The convenience of having BT and WiFi (I've got WiFi setup at home) built in means that I no longer have to juggle MS cards. Add the fact that this thing comes with a 29MB "internal media" memory segment, a wonderfully comfortable (for me) keyboard, and this is the perfect device for me.
But there's the rub, those last two words: "for me". While I love this little PDA over any other gadget I've had, I know that it's not for everyone. The screen IS small, and while the hires makes everything look "tighter" (high pixel density), the smaller size can be a burden to some.
Additionally, the lack of 4 traditional hardware buttons makes some usage awkward. I commonly use more than 4 apps in a general day, so if 4 buttons didn't cut it for me, 3 is really a stretch.
Finally, the landscape orientation is not currently being used to it fullest potential due to its "freshness" in the market. Give it a few months for more Wide-Res apps to become available and this thing will do wonders.
My advice to you would be to wait until BB gets their display UX's in and give it a full test run in the store. See if the screen and ergonomics are good for you. Compare it side by side with your NX. Then decide.
My personal usage needs lead me to the UX over the NX, and I'll never look back. However, some die-hard NX'ers may find the smaller screen and landscape only orientation difficult to adjust to.
Good luck with your decision!

It's not a matter of being a die-hard, it's out of necessity for when some of us get older and our eyesight is the pits!!! You may have no idea, how much of a disappointment it was for me.:(

Obviously, Sony would Want to put a larger screen on the unit if they could have but it just wasn't possible this time around.
Enough people are making an issue out of it that Sony will do whatever they can to make sure the next UX model has a larger screen. Trust me.

I just turned 60 and have no problem with the UX screen. My progressive lens Rx is very good :).
The orientation of it, tho, takes some getting used to. My grandchildren think it is cute - haha.

I just got my UX 50 yesterday as an upgrade to my NX70v, which I was very happy with, though it is taking some getting used to.
Pros:
o Smaller size is definitely a plus for me, since I travel with it
o Built in Bluetooth and WiFi is also a plus, since I use both
o Netfront works on the UX; I had problems with it on my NX, even with the latest version; and landscape viewing is definitely the way to go for web viewing.
o Keyboard .. actually usable. I never used the keyboard on my NX...it just wasn't practical.
Cons:
o Getting used to the landscape mode on most apps is difficult... apps that don't take advantage of the landscape view seem very small.
o the USB cable plugs into the UX50, not the "cradle" so I have to unplug it when I run off to a meeting --- this sucks
o Screensize...its very clear, but slightly larger would be better.
Overall, I am not sure about my thoughts yet...i am finding it really hard to get used to the landscape view, though for many this may be a big plus. Not many apps support this yet. I will decide this weekend whether to keep it, or look at an NX80.

I consider myself lucky for having relatively good near eyesight (please don't get me started on my crappy far sight *sigh*). I meant no disrespect to NX users or people with bad eyesight.
It's not necessarily an age thing, either, because I know a few people that I consider to be young who say the UX screen hurts their eyes to look at. I was just saying that anyone who's experienced Sony's typically nice and big screens (and gotten used to them) will find the smaller UX screen something difficult to get used to.
Oddly enough for me, going back to my NR is a bit awkward. The screen almost feels TOO big!
