View Full Version : Traded my NZ90 for NX80V - Crazy Best Buy Story

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my NZ90 was no longer holding a charge, so I took it to Best Buy along with my extended warranty. I know that Best Buy no longer carries the NZ, so I wasn't expecting an exchange. All I wanted was a replacement for the removable battery. They told me that wasn't possible. The warranty does not cover replacement of the battery (what a crazy rule). I had three options, I could have them ship one of the open box NZs from another store (no way), they could send my NZ to Sony for repair (another no way), or I could get a different model (hmmm...).

After spending quite some time playing with the NX80, I decided it was worth it to trade. Even though the NX80 is technically a "downgrade" from the NZ, I have found that it is superior in just about every way except for the camera (I've no interest in the bluetooth). And since my NZ had to have practically a full charge to even use the camera, not to mention the time it took to start up the camera ap, my conclusion is the NX80 is the better PDA (at least for me).

I especially love the improvement of the buttons in tablet mode and not having to unscrew the stylus to use the reset button, not to mention the increased amount of Ram. Another favorite is the beautiful color of the case. I really missed the nice silver case of my NR70 when I upgraded to the NZ.

So, bottom line is that I love my new NX and I REALLY love Best Buy's extended warranty plan!!

Nice grab. I think the NX80V is what the NZ90 should have been. But hey, each to his own.;)

I personally love my NX80V and I know you will too.:D

You guys are making it real hard for me not to go and get the nx80 right now. I am waiting for the t3 to show on Oct. 1 only 5 more days!!! Don't tempt me. I am still using the nx60, which I really like. I don't particularly care for the camera, though I must confess, I played with the nx80 at circuit city and I could see myself using it a lot. Its that hinge that bothers me a bit. I compared it with the nx73 and its a lot sturdier then its counterpart

Okay, but don't buy the NX80, because you may end up liking it...

I'll admit, the T3 is tempting. Maddie, you should slide on over to Palminfocenter's forums to see what people are saying about it - apparently, it's already available from some retailers. And, apparently, it's quite a PDA.

For me, I'll stick with my NX80. I got it about three weeks ago, and my usual pattern involves upgrading once a year. I figure by the time "upgrade season" rolls around again, OS6 will have all the bugs worked out, and we'll be seeing some really compelling hardware to go along with it.

Also, unlike many others, I love the design of the NX80 (and my previous NR70V). The clamshell/swivel design negates the need for a case, and gives you the option of having a thumboard or tablet style device, while maintaining a huge, bright hires+ screen across the board - no compromises here. Also, since I don't own a dedicated digicam, the 1.3mp camera comes in very handy, and takes excellent pictures for an amature photographer like myself. And, thanks to JackFlash and Peleca's/Mini's CF hacks , I have twice the memory I had out of the box (which is actually far more than I need), and a true, dual-slot PDA.

Nope, I think I'll wait for an OS6 NX80-type device. In the meantime, my NX80/WL100/KB100 combo will suit me just fine. No laptop. No wires. Nice.

-Adam

PS - The T3 still looks nice... And for $400, it looks even better.

hey since your nz cost more did they give you back the difference. if not you should have ask them and complain about it, they might have given it to you as a credit to get some stuff for your new nx.

Stores like that don't care about price differences on a return. I remember seeing a guy who returned a 6 month old $300 printer only to be told that he could only exchange it for a $150 printer since their abilities were comperable. The customer talked to 2 managers and the senior manager and they would NOT bargain.

jwittman,

why didn't you just buy a new battery and then swap them out and return it a couple days later? That could have solved your problem. But hey, you actually solved it a better way by getting a more usable PDA in the NX80V. I actually had them both and liked the NX80V a lot better.

oh, and acraniotes,

glad to see you liking your (err, my old) PDA suite!

Indeed I am, Rob. I haven't regretted my purchase one bit. With each day that passes, I love this thing even more. It's quite literally the best PDA I've ever owned. I'm just thankful that I saw your post when I did, and that my sister was travelling from LA to NYC when she was - there's no way that I would have dropped the coin on all this kit at MSRP...

Seriously, folks... If this guy says his PDA and accessories are in mint condition, and he's selling them - don't hesitate, hit your local ATM, or write out a check. Period.

-Adam

PS - And I'm glad to see that you're getting along great with your UX50.

They didn't give me the price difference, however, the NZ90s are actually cheaper than the NX80s now. Also, the value of my service plan is still $799, so if my NX80 needs replaced in the future, I still have the option of trading it for a higher priced PDA.

I thought of just buying a spare battery for my NZ90 and being done with it. But after trying out the NX80, I decided it was BETTER! So I feel like I got a great deal!

That is the reason exchange is not available in Singapore as we all will do that kind of trick.:p

Unfortunately BB extended warranty does not work this way... In theory, you are not "returning" an item for an exchange, you are getting a new PDA. On the other hand, the highest amount you paid holds its value. going from NZ90 to NX80 is less $$$, but getting the next NX90 or UX60 for him will be without a charge :)

In Singapore, once the good is use for more than 1 week, it is worthless to them.
