Using Picsel viewer

What is the method of transferring files that may be viewed by Picsel to the clie?

When I try to use the normal application installer straight to memorystick I get the message:
"No application on your handheld to open these files. If you have recently installed such an application, please run that application and then perform a HotSync operation."

Is there a prefered location to be used by picsel?

I don't think so....I made a folder on my MS - Palm\programs\misc
and copied my resume into it - a MSWord doc.

Then I wen to Picsel viewer and did the following:
Clicked on the cube
selected MS icon
went to Palm-->Programs-->Misc

The Word doc was in there, MS word icon and all!

The problem is that you are trying to use the Palm Installer to move the files over. Use Data Import instead (or an MS card reader).

That'll do it.

I guess I'm just used to using Palm Installer for everything.

This is actually an error in the picsel viewer itself. It should register the kind of files it opens to at least let properly named files to be loaded through the normal means.

Having six different ways to transfer information, depending on what you want to do with it is not normal behaviour for a device nowadays.

If I want to use the Clie viewer I have to use certain programs and certain directories, I can't just drop files wherever I want and view them there.

If I want to transfer music I have to do it in certain (very old) format (very old referring to the ID3 tags, that is) and in certain places, not anywhere I want.

Movies can be in several formats but each of those formats has to have specific settings (not every MPG file will play) and in very specific places (a proper MPG file can't be anywhere).

So you have to use the official Palm tools to transfer some files so they're in the proper places, while for other things you have to make some modifications to them and place them manually and only some programs will see them, not every program.

Docs-to-go registers the extensions for files it can use, so you can use the normal palm transfer tools and files will be placed where they belong.

There is still a lot of ground to cover in usability in Palms and I think one of the reasons this is not covered or simplified is because we've learned to live with it, and newer users are the ones baffled having to ask around because the interaction of the device with their PCs is not intuitive.
