Does anyone know if the UX50 supports playing audio to a bluetooth headphone/headset.
I would basically like to play mp3 off a memory stick and listen to them wirelessly via bluetooth.

Nope, it doesn't. Can anyone comment on whether an app can be written to redirect audio to the BT port?

There are two problems.
First the audio subsystem is designed to send audio to the speaker/earphone jack. There is no known place where you could trap the audio stream before it goes out at such a low level.
Of course with a custom player program (ie. not the built in ones), you could do it at a higher level.
The other, more difficult, problem is the CLIE does not support the 'handset profile'. This is what your bluetooth headphone/handset uses to talk to your cell phone. It is not currently supported in any PDA AFAIK.
BTW: most PC bluetooth adapters don't support it either [ie. you most likely can't use your scenario on a PC either ;-< ]

The 1st thing would be to know wheter the bluetooth stack on the ux has some support for headset profile ; when u ask for service detection under windows, the only profile mentionned is obex nut we know that the ux also supports BIP and Serial ; so maybe somewhere in the bluetooth drivers there's some headset profile but i doubt it
The headset profile would enable a gsm bt headset to be used, with mono and low quality sound ; i u want to have a real stereo headset, both ur device and the headset have to support AD2P - Advanced Audio Distribution Profile - which provide high quality sound and is bound to use for bluetooth hifi headsets.
From what i know, openbrain is about to release the 1st headset supporting a2dp
edit :
PPC Loox has headset profile, it's the one and only i think

Ok, just to make it clearer for me:
The headset profile has to be supported by the bluetooth adapter or by the software itself? That is, if I have a bluetooth adapter on my mac or considering the one embedded in the ux50. Headset adapter is part of what it could conceivably do with appropiate software or drivers or the hardware itself has to support it (like voice and modem and fax being three different functions in a modem and the hardware has to support them all).

The different "profiles" are usually just software built on top of the Bluetooth radio (and serial profiles)
So in theory, the Palm Bluetooth implementation *could* be enhanced to support the profile in the future. How that actually hooks into the audio playback is another matter (the first problem mentioned)
I don't know if there is sufficient hooks in the Palm Bluetooth implementation to hook in a new profile (ie. whether you could do it yourself or whether you have to wait for PalmSource/Sony)
