Same boat here... Now if I could just find a new launcher for her with as many options as ZLauncher I'd be all set!

I gave mine the TG50 I was using AND my old T68i... it was if she didn't even notice that I got the UX50... she was so mesmerized.

:)

If only it was that easy for the rest of my marriage :)

man is this for reals?!

I gave my girlfriend a n760c back in the day. She still uses it and loves it. I keep wanting to upgrade for her, but she always refuses, saying that the N760 does its job just fine.

Although the new Tungsten E pictures are very temping for her. That machine is SO sexy!

I wish I could get my husband interested in this stuff. That way I wouldn't have to feel so guilty for getting a new Clie. :) Although he does seem at least a little intrigued by my UX50.

hah... my gf just silently sneaks my clie into her handbag and takes off with it to play her favourite bejewelled and insaniquarium. at least yours voices out... its those silent types that are dangerous.

Wow. This is really sad. I'm afraid you're gonna have to let her go.

But hey!!! Think of all the free time you'll have with your UX WITHOUT-THE-CONSTANT-INTERRUPTION!!! WOO-HOO!! FINALLY!!

Some people have all the luck...

Yeah, I tried that with your wife too. It worked. :p

I started looking at Clies back in March-ish, to upgrade from my IIIc to. Wifey wasn't interested at the time, and I really wanted a keyboard, held out for the TG50, and decided it wasn't good enough. Then Wifey saw the SJ33 and was in love. She only held off for the two weeks until the Z71 came out because I told her to... and I seldom tell her to do anything.

So Wifey has a Z71. Which gets a LOT of attention. And two purebred cats. And a purebred puppy on the way. My UX50 doesn't even hit her radar.

Technocat,

Hey, I'm sorry, man. Remember, it's not your fault. If you can get the wife to take a long vacation you can always tell the neighbors that puppy was adopted.:D

get her any CLIE plus bejeweled, they should love it. Then you both will be playing with the CLIE & have much more of a common topic to discuss about. :D

I gave my wife my Platinum several months ago which got her hooked on PDAs. The same woman who didn't understand why I got the Prism ("Your old one still works , right?") came back and said... "I'd really like a color one". EventuallyI had to go and give her a Zire 71 for a birthday present.

Which left me an opening -- She's got her OWN toy to play with... :D

Funny, I'm having the same problem. My girlfriend is slightly less patient however as I've only had it for 7 days. The Clie vs. the girlfriend? God, I'm gonna miss her!

Well, as long as she does not get 1/2 of your new UX-50 you should be fine.

Tell her you will miss her, and before she leaves could she put your UX in it's charger?

Actually this is one of my favorite feature of the UX-50 : I can turn the backlight to minimum and with the lighted keyboard use it for hours in bed while my wife is asleep without any complaint.

But of course it is impossible to resist using it also when she is awake.... and then I get the usual allergic reaction!

Sometimes I can calm her down a little by showing her nice photos of the kids on the UX-50....

My girlfriend left me after I started playing Bejeweled... She told me "It's either me or that stupid game!" I told her "You're cost does not exceed the benefit, begone!" and she left me...I thought she'd come back...I played Bejeweled while I waited for her to come back... She never came back... I was gonna pack up her stuff...but Bejeweled called... Oh well...

I think I have the answer... My UX-50 was my anniversary present. It did, however, cost me a new Mac laptop plus (her anniversary present) plus my old T665C. Guess I got off easy!

It seems that many of us have the same problem.

Today I managed to stop with the UX thingy and will take her to the movies.

By the way, I noticed that when I operate the UX in public, it's soo hot that everyone will stare at it.

(And they don't know that I have my Siemens mobile in my pocket and I am writing emails)

UX IS WAY COOLER THAN MY WIFE.

Yeah, I keep my Siemens in my pocket, on vibrate, while playing with the UX50. Sending myself messages for the vibe. And people think I'm happy to see THEM. Yeah, right.

I think!!! This is so untrue. Some Woman love gadgets too! Like me!
Back then I bought a Ipaq for my dad, a T665 for my man, an Ipod for myself (3rd gen) sold it after a month, and changed many mobiles and digi cam!

I think women feel left out if they have nothing to play with...
get them something to play with , that suits their...agenda. HHAHA

I for one loves heels and cosmetics and skincare etc etc and I think if your other half is solely not into gadget, a usd$350~us$500 skin care cream will keep her mouth shut for a long time.

Or send her for a day long spa/ night long spa, buy her a holiday with friends....

that way you havetons of time with your gadgets

But long term solution- its best if she has her own gadgets! My man bought me an O2 Xda (later sold) and I've been told I NOW AM AN PROUD owner of a UX 50 by my man. Haven't seen it yet tho..

AHH life is sweet!

So give the ladies what they want, if you're short on cash then i suppose access to family jewels helps too.

Or send her for a day long spa/ night long spa, buy her a holiday with friends....

that way you havetons of time with your gadgetsI guess we can't accuse you of being a man posting as a woman, because every man knows that's just not true. Here's what would really happen:

Buy her expensive skin cream or cosmetics
She's happy for a day. (Yes, one day.)
She wants to show you the results after an hour, an evening, a day, two days, a week.
She wants to talk about those differences, "Is this making me look younger?", "Do you like my cheeks like this?
The man mostly just nods, unaware that skin creams and cosmetics came with a test, waiting to get back to the computer.
She nips off to the store or magazine and finds complementary cosmetics she needs, and wants to discuss those too until her man agrees
We finally cave and buy them, really just to get her to shut up.
But the cycle continues... now she wants to talk more.

I think these cosmetics, clothes, etc. are far more addictive to women than gadgets are to men. But men learn early on that their women and most of their male friends don't care about the gadgets. Women still foolishly, myopically, self-centeredly even, believe that men care about their perfume, cosmetics, and shoes. But honestly, we don't. As long as she doesn't smell bad, we don't notice the odor. Regular workouts will help the average woman far more than all available cosmetics together - makeup and creams don't hide fat, which is the thing we notice most... but women do the least about. Beyond that, we have no idea about the makeup most of the time. And as long as the shoes aren't like Birkenstocks we won't generally pay much attention. (And if they are Birkies, we'll generally wonder what's wrong with you and still not pay a whole lot of attention.)

Similarly, a spa or resort or ladies night out is also a short-term fix with profound long-term costs. She'll want it more, she'll expect it, and the results really last just a few days.

Real men know the tricks. Buy her a gadget (my wife has a Zire 71... with lots of games)... that shuts her up. Or several subscriptions to good magazines that, and this is important, are not about women or beauty... such as magazines about gardening, cooking, horses, science fiction... something she likes and will read that isn't about her and her place in the world. Or jewelry, which makes her happy and lasts a long longer than flowers. Or a puppy or kitten if she's been asking for one... they'll talk each-other's ears off.

Lucky you....us men mostly gotta buy our own toys...

msvanillahoney
10-19-2003, 09:33 AM
Technocat:! OMG! I never thought of it this way. I don't really discuss in length the science and technology of my SKII creams or Cle De Peau but my man sometimes is fascinated and wants to know more.

I'd rather call up my gfs and rattle to them all the time! But you ARE SO FUNNY! I can see the truth in what you say. Yes we need complimentary stuff, we need to show results after an hour and more and we are happy for a brief time...

But i think these are things I'd rather just go show and talk to with my gfs.

Yes I want a PUPPY....thats good...
I sense you just don't need much conversation from a woman?
HEHEHE

And Hey..I do BUY gadgets for my man too!

Now really, do you all have to resort to bribery and appeasement just to get to use your Clie without complaint? Who wears the pants in your family and who holds the leather case? My wife knew the drill when I had Handsprings, and she knows the drill now that I have Clies. I'll never upgrade without including her, because that's the right thing to do. I love her so much. I'd never think of getting something that would exclude her from my life.

Honey, hold the cue card straight, I can't read it...;)

LMAO!! :D

You people are hilarious! This is usually why I'd keep up with my bf's gadgets. When he first got the T720i ($299 at the time), I wanted a new phone also and bought the Nokia 8390 since it was convenient with the features I wanted at the time, new interface and look, and FREE after rebate! Hey, I wanted to feel cooler, too! :p

It has started again with PDAs. He wanted a fancy PDA and here I am with the good ol' "paper" organizer that I've had for YEARS. He's getting the UX50 and I'm getting the TJ25 since I don't need all the extra features and I wanted that look. Besides, if I also had the UX50, I think we would be confused with which one is which along with the GBA SP! ;)

Good luck!!

3000 as in dollars? For paintball guns? What, are they made out of solid gold? :)

He probably figured in the collateral costs. Let's see...
Two paintball guns, $230 each, for $460
Paintball supplies and CO2 cartridges, $120
Membership at the local PaintWars club, $250
Six weeks of relationship "councilling" mandated by her to him to improve his responsibility and communications after she found out he spent their "house downpayment fund" on paintball, therapist fees of $900
New jewelry and toys to give to her to "apologize" $1370

Total: $3000 for two paintball guns and accessories. See, paintball equipment is expensive!

eskasi
10-21-2003, 10:26 AM
Actually, its;

$1500 for the electronic paintball gun (Angel 4)
$450 for the compressed air system (Angel Air electronic)
$250 For ad on accessories on the paintball marker
$150 For the hopper (Halo B)
$250 Clothing
$400 Kit bag, pods, pod pack
etc, etc, etc

It's actually competition kit...see www.warpig.com

Counselling not included...

Oh, and by the way, we have an agreement that for every dollar I spend on toys or gadgets, I have to put the same in her "diamond fund"....a few more toys and she gets to pick a new tennis bracelet.....BUT she still complains about me buying stuff like this.....sigh.....women ;)
