In a post in the "General" category, someone posted an external speaker solution to the low sound volume problem when playing MP3's. Here's an excerpt:
"Radio Shack actually has a pair of small fold up amplified speakers with a retractable cord (stock number 40-1430). $20 and nicely portable, not the best audio quality, but not bad for what they are."

Here's my reply:

I bought the Radio Shack speakers you suggested above. Good solution to the low sound volume problem. The speakers are bigger than the T665, but they have a case and the cord is retractable. Sound is what you'd expect, not great, but good for their size; and better than the Clie speaker. I think they just meant for us to use earphones.

By the way, I filled up the 128M Memory stick with 33 128M MP3 sound tracks including about 90 min. of songs. Pretty nice!

Running with Hold slider on turns off the screen and saves the battery. PDA functions are the main event, but the audio player is a nice plus for the T665.

BY THE WAY again: Could Sony make a software tweak and get more volume out of the Clie speaker? It needs a little more volume anyway.
It would be nice if there was a patch available from Sony or someone else that would allow more sound volume. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Alan

Every speaker has it's limits....

Considering the size, and power... It's pretty damn loud already.

Playing MP3's is nowhere near as loud as the sounds in the ClieDemo program...it seems like there should be some kind of software trick that would make the speaker louder...Brian

I think it's a perception problem due to tone/bass

putting on bass tends to make it sound lower to people. Occurs lots in music, the demo doesn't seem to be so evident.

gimpus:
I have mostly classical music, which is quite bass poor, and the sound volume difference between cliedemo and playing mp3's is really quite large...

What you need is an equalizer.

The clie wouldn't be the place for that, since it would be software, it would put to much load on that 66Mhz CPU....

Best bet would be to download a sound editor that has a decent equalizer, adjust it to make it seem louder... then make a fresh copy of the mp3.

The speakers seem to be at their limits. It's a (audio) perception thing it seems.
